The building has spiraling staircases, huge columns, a brick atrium and windows looking out onto the forest that it borders. The exhibits are spectacular and include a life-sized kaleidoscope, a skeleton of the largest dinosaur ever discovered, an IMAX theater and a "Walk Through Time in Georgia," a story of the earth's develoment, complete with sound effects and recreated landscapes of a swamp, cavern, marsh and plateau. « less

This is not a museum I'd make a special trip for. We happened to be in Atlanta and this was included in the City Pass. Once there, we enjoyed ourselves. The dinosaur displays make very nice backgrounds in photos. The gold exhibit was really enjoyable. We weren't all that excited about it at first but ended up spending more time... more

My 6 & 8 year old are dinosaur nuts and they begged to go there after seeing an ad in one of their magazines. We decided to make it a day trip to Atlanta as a treat before school starts back. Even though we had planned to stay all day, we managed to very leisurely see and do everything more... more

My two year old loves dinosaurs, so we took him to Fernbank for that exhibit. We were hoping for a good childrens' exhibit, too. The dino exhibit is good. They have re-creations of dinos and dino fossils. From what I understand, one of the the dino exhbits is constant, and one is there for a limited time. The childrens' section... more

This museum is in a very beautiful, historic-looking area of town. The outside of the museum is very affluent and stately-looking. Almost like a large mansion rather than a museaum. The dinosaur statues out front gave it away though. The museum is not a dinosaur museum, it is a natural history museum. There are some dinosaur exhibits, but not a... more

We took our 8 year old twins here this past weekend and while there's nothing horribly wrong with the museum, there's also nothing spectacular about it either. Thanks to our AAA discount we got a discount but at $68 for a family of four, I could think of other attractions we probably would have enjoyed more. I expected more involved... more

After reading some of the reviews I had to tell all those that haven't explored the museum to the fullest to give it a chance. We lived in Atlanta for 10 years and frequented this museum and still stop by when we visit our friends. 1st of all, check out the floors. My friend is the one that installed those... more

The Georgia natural history exhibits are poorly lit and really need updating. There were three exhibits/activity centers which seemed newer and were geared towards specific age group (preschool and under 10 years). Not much there for adults. IMAX movie was cool. Nice walking trails in woods around museum. more

If you don't expect much, you can enjoy this museum. I had time to kill and took my time really checking things out. I enjoyed myself, but I would not go to Atlanta just for this museum. If you compare it to the Smithsonian, which is free and much much better, you will be very disappointed. It looks to be... more

This isn't a bad natural history museum, just average. The Walk Through Time in Georgia exhibit and the Giants of the Mesozoic were the only highlights to me. There weren't many exhibits all together. If you have been to Natural History Museums in Chicago and NYC, this will probably be a let down and not worth it. But if you... more
