This is an interesting and beautiful cemetary located within walking distance from MARTA train stop. The cemetary houses many famous and notable Atlantians. Around Halloween, there is also a great 5K called "Run Like Hell" that starts and ends in this cemetary. more

If it is Southern history and memorabilia you seek, Oakland Cemetery is a place you must visit. Be ready to feel the melancholy as you sense the beauty of this Victorian style cemetery. There is a spirit of calmness here as well. Originally this was an "out of town" new 8 acres cemetery of a pre-Civil War Atlanta town of... more

I have a morbid fascination with cemeteries and his one was awesome. My main reason for stopping was to see Margaret Mitchell's grave, which was easy to find for me with signs pointing the way from the west entrance. Look for the modest "Marsh" grave marker. I didn't make it into the visitor's center, but even the architecture of that... more

This is a beautiful old cemetary in Atlanta. We had a very brief time period in which to see the "hotspots" of this place. Besides the more popular graves of "Gone With the Wind" author Margaret Mitchell and golfer Bobby Jones, there are many mausoleums that are stunning. However, as other reviewers have mentioned, there are many spots that include... more

FREE! The best price an attraction can be. Though my wife and I spent about $150 in the gift shop, DOH! This place is gorgeous. An amazing assortment of styles and sizes of grave markers. We only had a half day set aside for this unfortunately, we could easily have spent the whole day and still not have seen it... more

The tombstones in this graveyard are varied and neat. The whole area is well shaded. It is easy to spend the day there just looking at all the graves. There are different sections based on affiliations and time periods. I love graveyards and this one is extra nice. more

The beautiful Oakland Cemetery was founded in 1850. It was the only cemetery in Atlanta until 1884. Among the more than 48,000 people buried here are Confederate and Union soldiers, governors and mayors, golfing legend Bobby Jones, and Gone With the Wind author Margaret Mitchell. She was hit by a taxi and died 5 days later in 1949. I saw... more

We heard about this cemetery from Tripadvisor and we were very glad that we visited. There is security on the grounds so we felt safe just strolling up and down the rows. There were plenty of large tombs but some of the best views were of the multiple rows of simple stones in the Confederate section. more

This is no creepy graveyard. It's a beautiful Victorian cemetery. Meaning, mausoleums like little houses in yards along little streets. At the time, cemeteries were the first public parks. There are a variety of landscapes, including grassy fields that attract lots of joggers and dog-walking. The guided tours tell stories of the people buried here, which are really stories about... more

This place was very quiet and peaceful. You must enter on the SW side, it's about a 20 minute walk from the GA. capitol. more
