Wonderful venue for display of art. We went for a special exhibition: DaVinci, Hand of the Genius. Very worth our time. But as for its overall collection, the High doesn't measure up to the art museums we have visited in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Madrid, London, Paris, and Rome. But, as our trolley tour guide said, "the... more

Am a professional designer who has visited many art museums in many major metropolitan areas including Paris, London and Rome. The Atlanta High Museum has an extremely friendly staff. I did find it to be an excellent layout. The best pieces in the museum would be the furniture and the best paintings were in the contemporary areas. more

Today my family attended the member's preview of the Monet's Water Lilies exhibit at the High Museum. It was appallingly poor. There were only four paintings, and only two large scale compositions. It took us about three minutes to view the entire exhibit. There were also no Monet related activities for children. There is a huge advertisement for Vermeer's Astronomer... more

This museum is very nice but it really needs some management help. The crowds are not controlled. The Chinese and Louvre exhibit is truly spectacular. Well what I could see of it. They can herd them in but there is no crowd control in the exhibit itself and everyone keeps piling in and you just feel yourself being pushed through... more

I was REALLY disappointed with the High Museum. The buildings were lovely but there was nothing in them. The National Museum of Art and The Baltimore Museum of Art are much better. I kept asking myself, "Is that it?" I wanted to see the Emperor exhibit but the line was too long. It probably would have been at least an... more

The "High" has been making great strides in getting world class exhibits from around the world in their doors. Currently China's First Emporer is a wonderful exhibit and gives most viewers the chance of a lifetime to see one of their worlds historical treasures. I've been to the "High" four times and have seen exhibits ranging from Van Gogh, items... more

I went to the High Museum of Art on December 30, 2008 specifically to see the First Emperor: China's Terracota Army. I had purchased my tickets in advance online for a specific time. Imagine my dismay when I arrived to find hundreds of people in the lobby of the High Museum. Even with an advance ticket purchase, we had to... more

Really a matter of taste. Compared to say the National Art Museum, or say Philadelphia or Boston - the beautiful building feels empty. Even with 3 major exhibitions at my visit, I found the High both breathtaking and disappointing. I have been in museums where there is so much - you feel overwhelmed. The High seems to lean the other... more

The museum building itself is beautiful. I thought their collection was lacking, it felt empty. The most extensive collection seemed to be of modern art.......and......well.....you know....modern art.......I'll just leave it at that. Now that being said: The highlights were the Louvre Atlanta with sculptures ranging from Egypt to Greco-Roman collections. The "pièce de résistance" was sculptures by Jean-Antoine Houdon. An... more
