We visited Walden Pond twice - once during the day, where we walked around the grounds, walked around the gift shop, and spent time in the replica of Thoreau's small home he built there (the real one is long gone). Then we returned at sunset and sat on the shore. It was amazing. more

Great place to visit about 30 minutes from downtown Boston. It's a wonderful combination of swimming and hiking/walking. The water is so clear and clean. You can really imagine Thoreau living simply. They are very strict about not overcrowding which is great but be sure on the weekends to call ahead and see when you can get in. They will... more

In one word, peacefull! I had never been to this place although I had wanted to go ever since seeing Don Henley on TV preaching about saving it! It is not as big as I thought it would be, however it has many systems of winding trails into the woods that are all very well marked and maintained. I walked... more

Not very far at all from the Concord/Lexington areas by car. Parking is $5 but "admission" is free. Walden pond is very relaxing. Also, there is a statue of Thoreau as well as a reconstruction of his cabin that he built which should be accurate because he described it in his writings. You can take a trail that goes all... more

It's hard to believe that Walden Pond is just outside of Boston. But it is and - believe or not - it is serene. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes. The pond isn't a pond unless it's the biggest pond I've ever seen. It's a lake and it's a hike to go all the way around it. Don't worry... more

We really enjoyed visiting Walden Pond. It is a beautiful setting and in July, at the time of our visit, there were swimmers enjoying private edges of the pond and swimming the expanses of the pond. We wished we had brought our suits, and also the mosquito repellent. We all had several big mosquito bites before we left. It took... more

I became attracted to the writings of Henry David Thoreau because of his ideas and beliefs about life. So I figured why not a vacation there? So we planned a one week trip. To say it was fulfilling is an understatement. We saw not only Walden Pond, which is kept in pristine condition, but also Sleepy Hollow Cemetery where Thoreau... more
