About
Starting in the 80’s as a part time job, in 1996 I decided this was going to be my adventure. Since then I have been offering tours in more than 90 different sites around the area, of which 50 are still on the list. Apart from all the little villages on the area that are more or less known I have been getting specialized in Salvador Dali, the Spanish Civil War, medieval and rural villages and Romanesque architecture. Most popular on the list are the Dali’s Museum in Figueres, the medieval towns of Peratallada, Monells and Sant Marti d’Empuries (among others), the Spanish Civil War in Figueres, a tour of Romanesque churches and a night tour searching marks and rituals used in the past to protect houses and ward off witches. Opening closed temples, climbing medieval towers or discovering all the little details in walls and buildings becomes part of the experience that only a curious local like me can offer you. Here I am to make you enjoy as much as I do. Feel welcomed

Nik was really wonderful. Not only did he have a fantastic command of the subject, but he clearly continues to update his research and understanding of Dali's life and art. He provided background, context, and details that you'd NEVER get on your own or in a big group tour. The private tour was the best way to make the most of your day in the museum. Honestly, I thought Dali was just a flake before our tour, but I now really appreciate and, to a more-limited extent, understand his work. Thanks Nik!

Ken, thanks a lot for appreciating Dalí through my modest explanations and for taking some time to leave this helpful review. Despite almost a thousand visits to the museum, I realize that I still have a lot to learn about Dalí and his work. My regards to Christine and the rest of you. I wish you a great 2019

Wonderful experience. Nik did a brilliant job of guiding us around the Dali Musuem. I can't recommend him enough. I only thought I knew anything about Dali before now!

He was also super helpful pre-trip and extremely patient with my quirky group of folks. Thanks again!

Nik gave us a half day tour about the Civil War. We walked around Figueres and viewed buildings, squares, and signs of the past. Nik has a depth of knowledge about the region that can’t be beat. Our group of six recommend him without reservation!

We had an incredible day with Nik, exploring the medieval churches and buildings around Peratallada, with a visit to a ceramic factory thrown in for good measure. Nik is passionate about history and this area and loves to share his knowledge with travellers; discussing current politics was also enlightening. Because he is a trusted and personable guide, he was able to obtain keys to several medieval churches which we otherwise would have only seen from the outside. Our only regret is that we did not stay longer to perhaps tour the Dalí museum and learn more about the Spanish Civil War, another topic of great interest to Nik.

Another superlative 3-day tour experience with Nik filled with a mixture of history, culture, natural parks, and a few unexpected “hidden gems.” Nik approaches it all with a sense of wonder that is infectious and enjoys the moments of serendipity as much as I do.

Started off in the beautiful village of Besalu and the unique Museum of Miniatures then stopped along the way at nearby medieval towns, Banyoles Lake, and Les Estunes National Park which has a touch of magic – a fairy legend arising from the dramatic fissures and rock formations caused years ago by an earthquake.

During the next 2 days we visited small historic villages off the beaten path and toured Museu Rural at Mas Pou, a museum highlighting Catalonian farm life through the years. In Peratallada, after Nik’s historical walking tour of the village, we took a break and stopped at Cireret, a charming new wine bar – an ideal way to relax at the end our village tour!

On our last day, a seaside theme, with a visit to the Salt & Anchovy Museum in L’Escala – another delightful small museum with artistically arranged displays - and our final stop, a walk on the sand at the unspoiled Pletera Beach National Park. That ended my idyllic long weekend exploring a little more of the beautiful Emporda with a terrific, personable guide. Already dreaming about returning for a 3rd tour…

Nik, I am glad our itinerary could handle a few “wild goose chases” , cafés solo y cortado and pizza at L’Esculapi! Moltes Gracies!

Dear Haddya, when I need to explain the job to others I sometimes use 'discovery tours' as a close approach. With you, it really becomes a discovery, for me also, when end up taking you to a nearby site that I haven't being for ages or even entering the 'unknown' sites. The list was almost finished, although some things stayed on the list only (for a future gathering) since time flew and you were so kind to adapt yourself to my busy schedule. Thanks a lot for your visit and looking forward to go for further wild goose chases. nik

I have been on many of Nik's tours both in Catalunya & in France & they are always really enjoyable. Nik is a true professional & researches his subjects in depth. He is passionate about his work & imparts his enthusiasm to everyone on his tours. I have been to Dali's Museum with him 3 times now & each time I begin to understand the great artist a little more thanks to Nik's explanations.

From the initial email, it was clear to me that I was going to adore touring with this authentic and personable guide! Nik is fun, knowledgeable, and passionate about the history/culture of the Costa Brava/Emporda region. And is also flexible and very responsive to emails so it was quite easy to collaborate on an itinerary. He has lived there for many years and is very well known in the village communities so is able to conduct tours of sites "off the beaten path" that most tourists cannot access. September is a busy tour month for him but he worked me into his schedule which I was very grateful for.

After finding out my interests, he took me to quaint medieval villages, small historic churches, a family owned ceramic workshop, a fantastic ceramic museum in La Bisbal, a Spanish Civil War site with a memorable underground surprise, a fisherman's cottage in L'Escala, and Sant Marti d'Empuries, a beautiful coastal town that we added last minute in order to escape the unending heat. We also stopped by a delightful, unassuming "shabby chic" cafe in Corca for a quick afternoon break to sample some excellent coffee and orange cake.

Part of the fun was going with Nik to various bars, restaurants, police stations, town halls, etc to pick up the church keys. We stopped by one restaurant for a key and I was invited, spur of the moment, into their kitchen to watch the chefs cook caracoles (snails) and then given a sample bowl to eat. Such a lovely gesture and totally unplanned. On the last day, Nik even helped me "power shop" for ceramics and Romesco sauce.

During our touring days, we discussed so many things, life in Spain, food, wine, Catalan culture, politics, history including the Spanish Civil War which I knew very little about. Nik started out as my tour guide and now I consider him a friend. I am already looking forward to booking him on my next trip. Do not hesitate to schedule a tour with him. He is a gem!

Moltes Gràcies, Nik, i estic desitjant tornar a la nostra propera recerca inútil junts!

Dear Haydda, when reading your review I've realized we did plenty of things in only three days and there are a lot of anecdotes that will keep me smiling next time I visit those sites. Yep, some surprises were not arranged and just happened, so this was part of the adventure, wasn't it?. In any case I am glad I was able to make you feel also the excitement of the discovery of new things and sites. I have a couple more 'wild goose chases' prepared for your next visit. ;-) Thanks a lot for your fantastic company. Hope to see you again. nik

Ok, we really clicked with Nick. He was an excellent guide, without his expert guidance, explanations and interesting anecdotes about Dali and his art and his wife Dala, it would have never been the same. I highly recommend you hire him for this museum visit. He knows what he is doing, a true professional. One can feel he loves what he is doing and that makes it special. He even went so far as to go to our bed and breakfast so we could follow him into Figueres and not get lost, also to show us best place to park our car. Best guided tour we had in our Catalonia tour. Gracias Nik, fue un placer conocerte. Te envian saludos Ueli, Richard, Mary y Marta

Dear friends, what could I say to your review? Only that I had loved to stay a bit longer after the tour cuz the conversation we had at the café got pretty interesting and sprightly. Unfortunately as you may remember I had to run that day for a another tour in Monells and whatever the reason the group arrived an hour late. The excitement of this job! También fue un placer para mi. Gracias a los cuatro por vuestro humor y interés. nik

Eight of us spent a morning with Nik touring the Dali Museum in Figueres. The museum itself is definitely worthwhile on its own but going with a guide provides a much better experience. And Nik has both a deep understanding of and passion for Dali. We saw and learned things we could never have done on our own. Nik is very professional and presents information with humour and insight. Booking and pre-tour communication was prompt and helpful. Highly recommended for Dali and his other tours in the region. You won't be disappointed and very affordable as well.

Nik positively made Peratallada come alive in a way that would be impossible to understand on one's own. He is one of the best walking tour guides I've used across Europe. I highly recommend him. He speaks superb English.
