The sheer magnitude or this undertaking was beyond belief. Too learh that the original plan was to build a tourist stop and to see what it has become is unbelievable. The whole story as presented was very interesting. Attended a ranger talk that was also very interesting and informative. If you are in the area reserve 2-3 hours for this... More

When you grow up learning about it and seeing pictures of it all the time its hard to believe its real until you actually see it. Glad I can say I saw it but there is only so long you can stare at a piece of granite. Worth driving 9 hours for by itself - not so much but if... More

I wanted to see Mount Rushmore since it's an American landmark. I'm so glad I went! It was not very crowded when I went so parking was fine, and $11 is a bargain for a 6-month pass!

Mt Rushmore park should be a must see. It is historic and beautiful. The park is run very well. For me the park paled in beauty compared to the surrounding mountains and hills. The countryside is beautiful. Take time to talk to some of the park rangers, they can give you suggestions on scenic drives and places to see. They... More

May was the perfect time to visit - before the crowds. Summertime crowds - and heat - would be difficult. Nat'l Park Service displays are excellent and very informative.

The Mount Rushmore memorial is awesomely done. The Presidential trail gets you some great close up views of the memorial. Rent the audio for $5 it is worth it. The restaurant on site was very good, as well as, the ice cream shop next to it. The bookstores and gift shops were well stocked.

This was a bucket list event and I was not disappointed. It's an amazing mountain carving that elicits pride in America's past. Well worth the trip.

Interesting to read about the idea and the construction and very nice to see the impressive sculptures but it's difficult to understand how it became a national monument and why! Perhaps you have to be a US citizen to "get it" but it seemed more Disney than real life to us.
