Went on Canyon View Trail: view of head of Betatakin Canyon (0.6-mile round trip). Saw lots of lizards all along the trail. Paved trail down hill was quite easy to make. A bit harder going up. The people who run the monument are very friendly. Clean restrooms. Well worth the turn off.

It is well worth a visit to the Navajo National Monument to see the Anasazi ruins. We stopped there on our way to Monument Valley from the Grand Canyon. There is an easy half-mile paved hike down to a view of the ruins of these cave dwellers. I should point out that the trail there is mostly downhill while the... More

This was well worth getting up early and going to first thing. The national park service ranger was very helpful, the Sandals Trail to see the Anasazi ruins is fairly easy and the views are spectacular. A viewfinder helps you see the ruins in the canyon wall cave. There is lots of explanatory information in the visitor center and along... More

Unfortunately we got there too late in the day for a guided tour and all we could do was walk to the end of the path and view the cave dwellings from across the canyon. Interesting but not nearly as impressive as other places where we got up close and personal. Also keep the time in mind as the center... More

Saw the signs for this on our way and decided to take a chance and investigate. I am glad we did and although you don't need long here it just adds to the brilliantness of this part of the US. Make sure you read the information cards on the way down to look at the monument and take your binoculars.

I stopped here on my way from Flagstaff to Moab. I didn't have a lot of time to spend, but it was along the way so I figured, why not? I'm glad I stopped. The national monument is free to the public, and the visitors center had interesting information about the people, culture, and animals of the area. There were... More

This national monument is bit out of the way. By the time I got there, I was too late for the ranger guided tours to the ancient Indian ruins. The access to these ruins appears to be extremely limited. There is a Sandal Trail where you can walked to the overlook of one of the major ruins. Its a good... More

While driving back from Monument Valley, we saw the sign and went to visit the Navajo National Monument. We were able only to visit the overlook, as there was a lot of snow in the ground and going down to the canyon floor would have been dangerous. Entrance is free, but donations are accepted, the visitor center has a video... More

To get the best from your visit to the Navajo NM, you must be prepared for a hike. Guides lead people into the Tsegi canyon twice a day in Summer and otherwise, once a day - bookings can be made at busy times. We set off at 10.0 am, with temperatures in the high eighties, led by a Native American... More
