In addition to the old movie sets and memorabilia of its rich Western film history, Old Tucson is now the premier attraction in the Southwest to experience what life in the Old West was really like. Heritage Square contains 12 new movie quality sets and 3 new streets in the “town square.” The design of the new building sets was led by Gene Rudolf a credited Art Director for many movies including Young Guns II, The Great Gatsby, The Right Stuff, and many more. Recent additions are the Native American Village and Living History Program. Just a stroll down the street is an adventure as you learn about the perils of cross-country travel via stagecoach, schools on the frontier, the demands of life as a sheriff in a Wild West town, and other topics discussed throughout the town. Old Tucson Living History programs are designed to be entertaining yet educational. Our goal is to create the atmosphere of a western town circa 1865–1900 that lets guests step back in time. Old Tucson has adopted a new logo to represent its expanded focus on Old West history, heritage, and culture in addition to its storied film history and world-famous entertainment. This broadening of scope is represented by the iconic wagon wheel, symbolic of the great westward movement of settlers to the southwest in the 1800s by wagon train. The seven spokes of the wheel represent the strong cultural and historic groups that made significant contributions to Tucson’s rich heritage: Native Americans, Spanish Colonials, Mexicans, Western Cowboys, Ranchers, Chinese, and African-Americans. The seven spokes join at the wheel’s hub (the location of the Old Tucson name), representing the synergistic joining of culturals and heritages at Old Tucson for a living western experience found nowhere else in southern Arizona. Moving us toward the future, the wagon wheel reminds us to honor and celebrate our history, heritage, and diverse cultures. Old Tucson spring special events include Wild West Days and the Cowboy Music Festival (presented in conjuction with the Western Music Association, AZ Chapter. Operating Hours and AZ Resident Discount. Old Tucson invites you to see for yourself the New Old Tucson – Where the Spirit of the Old West Comes Alive! Old Tucson is open daily thru April. For a limited time, Old Tucson is offering Arizona residents one free admission with the purchase of a regular priced adult ticket. This buy-one, get-one-free offer requires a valid Arizona ID. One discount per id; cannot not be combined with any other discounts. « less

The Old Tucson Studios were just really fun. We spent several hours there and could have spent more time, but it was closing in the evening. Many old buildings, parts of old movie scenes. Lots of John Wayne through the whole place, some of "Little House on the Prairie", "The Ponderosa with Hoss and Little Joe", parts of the set... More

I am a native tucsonan, and this was my first trip back since i was a kid. It is a great stop if you have guests. The drive out through gate's pass is worth the trip. Same route gets you in same area as wildlife museum and Desert Museum though you probably could not do them all in a single... More

The original Old Tucson burned some 15 years ago. It was special. Today in my opinion it is just another movie set. Good for the kids but better places to spend your time.

I enjoyed seeing where some of the old movies were made, Ponderosa, Death Valley, The Wild Wild West. This place definitely has something for everyone. We enjoyed riding the train around the studios, seeing the musical, visiting the old ice cream shop and shooting the old rifles. It was one of the highlights of our trip to Tucson, AZ. I... More

This was great for the whole family. Not very crowded at the end of high season. Toddler loved the train ride, stagecoach ride, horse rides. Grandparents loved the history behind the sets.

Start off by driving through the Sonoran desert filled with Saguaro cacti to get to Old Tucson. Then prepare to go back in time to the Wild, Wild West of years ago. Wear cool, comfortable clothes and take your time looking at all the buildings and people and animals. Have fun with the impromptu shows. See ya there, Pard.

As a photographer, it was a very special day. We had an opportunity to shoot models with special lighting equipment in the old western movie sets. The buildings and setting in old Tucson are a great sight to see and visits. As a photographer with models dressed in special vintage western outfits, we had a great time.

I have visited Old Tucson several times over the past 25 years, and this time it seemed that there wasn't as much going on as in the past. The shows we saw were very good, the actors take the job seriously and are good entertainers, but I remember more interaction with Guests roaming through the town, and other touches that... More
