My friends and I went near the end of the day and took the 4:30pm tour. I found the houses interesting with some great stuff to see inside, I wish I had read the book written by Hawthorne. I recommend you dont take a tour so late in the day as they start shutting down around 5pm. Although they didnt... More

Glad we went by here. The history is really cool and it is neat to see the inspiration behind the story of the house. The other buildings are great to see as well and this is a good location in the small town of salem with good resturaunts nearby as well. Would recomend to go by here if you are... More

Easy to see why this was a AAA gem. Easy to get to from downtown via the Salem Trolley. Moderately priced and a great value for that price! Tour guide was very personable and informative. She really brought to life the relationship between Hawthorne and the house he used as a basis for his novel. Couldn't believe the number of... More

Apparently there was a busload of students behind our Group and our tour was cut short to accomodate their schedule according to our Tour Guide. I'd rather have not known that fact. Interesting building, not sure if worth the cost.

The house really has little to do with the book by Hawthorne. However, if you enjoy history, it's worth an hour or so. The views across the water are lovely, as well as the gardens. If you're a Hawthorne fan, you'll likely enjoy the items on exhibit in the house where he was born.

If you like touring older homes they do a great job of that here. This property has more than one home to tour, a gift shop and beautiful gardens you can relax by looking out to the bay with all the boats and sights. We went there with 100+ of our staff and when we arrived they were very organized... More
