Japanese Tea Garden, a San Antonio must see, but do not be deceived, there is no tea. I was in awe at the beauty of the gardens. Even in the sweltering heat of a San Antonio summer, it is worth a trip to the Japenese Tea Garden. There is a waterfall, ponds with lily pads and koi, beautiful flowers, wooden... more

As mentioned in an earlier review, the Japanese Tea Garden was reopened in 2008 after extensive renovation. The koi have been placed back in the ponds, the gardens have been restored as has the waterfall. This is the site of an abandoned rock quarry. The City Park's and Recreation Dept developed a lily pond here at first and then in... more

December 2008- My husband and I visited San Antonio and we enjoyed many of the tourist activities in the city. We visited the Japanese Tea Gardens and we were glad that we did. The area is an old quarry. The story goes that a Japanese family owned the property in the 1930's- 40's and had a Tea Garden there. Which... more

The city has recently spent 1.6 million in renovations to this garden and it is beautiful. There are pics online from March of 2008 on Wikipedia if you'd like to see for yourself! more

I rememeber going to the Tea Gardens back in the 80's they were beautiful with giant koa fish swimming and the water fall was my favorite spot, I moved back to San Antonio after being gone for 20 years, it broke my heart to see this once beautiful place abandon and dry. Hope the city does somthing soon it would... more

I was disappointed to read the reviews for the tea gardens. I enjoy going there, it's nice and quiet, it is a good place to relax when you get done visiting the zoo or after a concert at Sunken Gardens. It's just a laid back place to hang out at. Maybe I am just being defensive for my town's attractions,... more

Don't go here. It is unkempt and falling apart. Every scrap of bamboo is permanently etched with gang grafitti and people's initails. I was sorely disappointed, esp after seeing the gardens in san francisco. more

Please don't go here! I went after reading the other reviews on this site and was sorely disappointed. Whether it was the drained waterways, steeping with stagnant mosquito water... or the stench of rotting beer and urine from the local admirers of this possibly once beautiful garden, we left after about 15 minutes of walking around. I was stunned as... more
