There was a very good visitor's center and the mission is interesting to see. Don't forget to check out the mill. We didn't get to go inside the church. I'm not sure if it is open to the public all of the time. more

This is the largest and most well-maintained of the four missions. This mission will give you the best idea of how things were in the past. Excellent staff here as well. San Jose is alive with people, in contrast to the emptiness of the other missions. I would even say that it would be safe to ignore the other missions... more

After having read the reviews for the Mariachi Band Mass at Mission San Jose, we could not go to San Antonio without going to the mass. The Mariachi Band plays during their Sunday 12noon mass. The mass is in English, the songs are all in Spanish. It was just beautiful.. Prior to the mass starting, they ask who is from... more

This place was beautiful. We took one of the trolley tours there, but if you have a car I would save the money and just drive there. If you go on a Sunday, go in the afternoon unless you want to go toa catholic mass. The park staff are informative...there is a lot of history...the church is beautiful. I believe... more

Wow. I took probably 400 pictures in the 4 missions alone. San Jose is the largest and it has a good film that they show in the visitors centre on the history behind them. Some of them are almost completely in ruins but they are all working churches today and so cool. I wouldn't go to San Antonio without visiting... more

We went to a Sunday mass at noon, complete with a mariachi band playing the music. It was a great experience to worship in such a historical place. If you plan to attend a service, get there at least 30-45 minutes early, as there was standing room only. Overall, the mission is beautiful inside and out. I think attending a... more

A very interesting historical site. This is the only mission we had time to see. It was a stop on our trolley tour. The architecture of the mission both inside and out was beautiful. Check out the mill which is right outside the mission walls. You can actually go in one of the perimeter rooms where people lived. There is... more

We enjoyed our visit to Mission San Jose very much. We did our research and arrived on Sunday, just in time for one of the ranger tours, which are always great. Then we attended the Marriachi Mass, which was wonderful. I would say the ranger tour is a must to get a real sense of the history of the San... more

I was really looking forward to attending the Mariachi Mass on Sunday here (12 noon only) Fist, the taxi-cab ride was 35.00 dollars just to get there from the Westin Riverwalk. We were there in the beginning of May 2009....right when the Swine Flu was starting to transmit rapidly, with Texas being # 2 in confirmed cases. My wife is... more
