This building's exterior is beautiful, as is its location -- right across the street from the Cathedral Basilica and its park, and just a block from the Central Plaza. Its collection on display is not extensive, but on the day I was there I was particularly pleased to see a gallery devoted to the art of the Seneca and Iroquois... More

I like this museum, but check to see who is exhibiting before going. It might not be your thing. I go if I like the work that's showing. Otherwise, the Wheelright is a better option for Native Art. It may not be contemporary there, but it's still great, and sometimes they have contemporary art. In fact, a lot of times... More

I'd like to think of myself as a cultured individual and one that appreciates art ... but I was somewhat underwhelmed by this museum. The art itself was fine with some really great stuff. But, I couldnt get over the steep price of admission. I wont go back.

My husband and I visited during our New Year trip to Santa Fe. We enjoyed the art, I especially liked the installation piece about diabetes. Reasonably priced admission, I was disappointed that the park portion was closed due to ice, but that is not something that could be prevented. Recommend visiting.

This is a small museum with exhibits of intersting contemporary art work Some is humorous and some radical. On a recent visit we saw four short films that won awards done by Native Americaan filmmakers. The outside sculpture garden is dedicated to the great Alan Houser and has a number of his works. The museum is part of the North... More

I first reviewed this museum on January 8, 2011. Now, having visited again on Thursday, July 28, 2011, I'm rethinking my original rating and knocking it down one. Note that while this museum is still a part of IAIA, it's now called the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts. Main exhibitions included “HIDE: Skin As Material and Metaphor” (on loan from... More

I visited on Monday, August 2, 2010. This was the first day it had been open since closing in March for major refurbishment. This was one of my favorite contemporary art museums I’ve ever seen…of any type. While they focus on works of tribal peoples (and not just New Mexico), this is top notch contemporary art. For me this is... More
