El Rancho de las Golondrinas is a living history museum on spectacular grounds near Santa Fe. A fabulous place to get your kids out of doors after "dragging" them through some of Santa Fe's indoor museums. Their special events are unparalleled and there is always something interesting happening there.

I suspect my rating would go up during the summer after the trees have leafed out, and it wouldn't matter what was there - just a nice walk. In the spring you have to have order a guided tour, and it was nice. We have gone to Living History Farms - many times at our former home in Des Moines,... More

Though I prefer first-person living history, the costumed interpretation with early buildings on a historic site and worth its weight in the seven cities of Cibola...

If you want to see what Hispanic Cultural life was like in the last century, this is great. Go in the early morning and spend a lovely day. The guides are great, the resources fabulous. You will be thrilled that you made the trip.

This is a wonderful rather out of the way destination not to be missed if you are interested in New Mexico history.

This is a great partially recreated working rancho. They have something scheduled year round and it is always wonderful. It gets very very warm during the summer in this little pocket, so go early and take hats. Learn to make tortillas etc. and see how people lived.

Great place to visit with kids. Area is spread out, so plan on walking at least a mile. Flat ground but not paved. Try to go when there is an event. Hot in Summer, so come prepared (parasol, water - go early, not late). Hottest time in SF is 2-3:00ish (sandy ground heats up throughout day). Remember, this was a... More

El Rancho is a restored and partially augmented recreation of a 17th century rancho one days journey by ox cart south of Santa Fe, New Mexico. It is beautifully presented with docents in costume, a quality gift shop and a lovely picnic area for those who choose to bring food. The Rancho provides a look into the pre-Anglo past of... More
