I often go to Newport for weekend getaways from the city. The Cliff Walk is far away my favorite thing to do. It offers great views of the water and the mansions. Be sure to wear good walking shoes. Note that a portion of the walk is quite difficult but the views from these parts are worth it if you... more

My fiance and I walked the part of the Cliff Walk that runs between the Breakers and Marble House. We kept stopping for photos, and it must have taken us an hour to walk between the 2 mansions. It was breathtaking. A must see! more

The cliff walk was a true highlight from our trip to Newport, RI. The walk is 3 1/2 miles total, but can be shortened if you pick segments of the path. It runs along the water on one side and to the backyards of many beautiful and unique mansions on the other side. The walk has segments of man-made pathways,... more

I really don't understand a few of these reviews, the walk was a great way to get out and see some amazing ocean views while getting a little bit of excerise. The walk is a walk - 3 miles of paved/non paved trails that require sneakers and a drink of water. it is true that the mansions can not be... more

Saying you might die here is a huge exaggeration. We started in the middle of the Cliff Walk at Forty Steps. You are able to park for free on the street. There are two outhouses at this point so there is a place to use the facilities before you get on the Cliff Walk. My sister reported that they were... more

If you must do this, which I don't exactly recommend, here are some rules. 1. GO TO THE BATHROOM FIRST! 2.5 hours of walking with a full bladder is no fun, no matter what you're looking at...trust me! 2. Start in the middle. We started at the beginning and walked...and walked...and walked...until we FINALLY saw a mansion (waaay up on... more

Parking at First Beach was easy. The beach was nice and there were bathrooms and other amenities. The hike overall was nice with some great views of the ocean and some mansions. We thought that the majority of the path was paved but we were wrong. You have to walk along boulders, which isn't bad unless you have to carry... more

This is a necessary part of anyone's visit to Newport. Though parking can be very tricky, if you come early enough in the day (say between 8 and 10 am) you should be able to find a good spot and enjoy the walk before it gets crowed. There are sections of the walk that require you to be physically able... more

We started at "40 steps" and walked our way down. We loved to see the breathtaking views of the ocean. Part of the path is not paved and you actually walk on the huge rocks. That was our favorite part. Towards the end, we exited with the hopes of finding a trolley to take us back to our car. We... more

Cliff walk is an awe-inspiring National Recreation Trail, a 3.5 mile walk along the wind swept Atlantic ocean on one side and many of Newport's magnificent gilded age mansions on the other. A paved trail begins off Memorial Blvd. at the top of Easton's Beach (paid & metered parking at the beach) and finishes at the end of Belleview Avenue... more
