I bought the membership for $75 for a full year, for two people. I think this is a great value and allows you to come back and visit the mansions if you don't get to see the ones you want to see in a day (which is most likely the case). Be prepared for a lot of walking, even if... more

The Breakers is an absolute MUST for everyone who visits Newport. Take time on the audio tour to listen to the extra talks available. They are definitely worth the time. The grounds are well worth walking around and there is also a child's playhouse on the premises to view. We also toured The Elms which was fantastic and has a... more

We stayed in Newport Sept 12-18/2009 week. We read the reviews about how crowded the mansions get on weekends so we went on Monday and Wednesday. We visited 5 with our ticket package (Kingscote, Marble House, Elms, Rosecliff, Breakers). We were very impressed with all of these mansions. Marble House, Elms and Breakers had audio tours. Kingscote and Rosecliff had... more

Mke sure you go to the Newport Historical Society or Preservation Society oinline to get information and book your tickets in advance. We took the tour of The Breakers plus another mansion. We chose the Elmd. Most tours are by audio with headsets but there are some guided tours. Sneakers or good walking shoes are must! The tour companies will drop... more

My wife and I went to Newport for our third trip in 20 years. We have always found the mansion tours to be interesting, and we were curious to see what had changed since the 1980's. The more popular homes now have audio tours instead of guided ones. This has really eliminated the waiting lines at the Breakers, Elms, and... more

Chances are if you're going to Newport, seeing the mansions is one of the reasons for the trip. The fact that they are all close together, have free parking, and now many have the audio self-guided tours, you can easily do them all in a day or two. A few still have guides, which can slow you down, but worth... more

Over the past several years we've been to the mansions several times. However, we recently returned in August and were more than dismayed about the audio tour. In the past, volunteers would take small groups thru the mansions giving a description and history of each room and tell about the people who occupied them and were more than willing to... more

i am a local and 3 years ago had family visiting from out of the country. We went to the Breakers and the Marble House. I was more impressed by the Marble House plus its on the CLiff Walk so if you feel like it you can walk along part of that and get some nice pictures including the Chinese... more

We went to the Breakers and the Marble House. It took about 2 hours to do both. Both had customizable audio tours. The Marble House was amazing with so much intricate detail. The gothic room was my favorite. The Breakers was beyond desciption. The Marble House is one of the top three mansions, but the Breakers was 10 times more... more

We got a "Breakers Plus" ticket, which allows you to see The Breakers (built by Cornelius Vanderbilt) and any other mansion of your choice. It's only a few dollars more to see the second house, and you don't have to do them on the same day. I took 2 teenagers and they were both entertained. The tour price includes a... more
