Tumacacori is visable from Interstate 19 in the Santa Cruz Valley south of Tucson and is the oldest standing mission in southern Arizona. It is in partial ruins, but is still a good example of the scope of an early Spanish mission with outlying orchards and other buildings. The tours and introductory movie make early life at the mission come... More

This park offers interpreted tours of this mission and video showing the mission trail of the early settlers of southern California. I never realized that we had a mission trail in North America pre-dated the California missions. The gardens are lovely at the right time of year and they offer demonstrations of Native culture. At Easter they host a very... More

The mission is under construction but we had a wonderful tour guide who helped us understand the history of the mission but also enhanced our understanding of the Presidio at Tubac and the Mission at San Xavier du Bac. Start here - you won't regret it. Because of the construction, the entrance fee was waived. Free homemade tortillas!

Thanks to our tour guide, this was one of the highlights of my visit to the region. He did a great job explaining the history of the mission, not just telling us about the priests but also about the Native Americans who lived in the area. Without his narration, it would have been very difficult to get the full flavor... More

My husband and I visited this park and we really enjoyed the exhibits. The garden is gorgeous. The mission and the other buildings are well worn over the past 300 or so years. Be sure to watch the 15 min documentary.

The Mission San José de Tumacácori is another beautiful 300 year old mission started by Father Kino. It is not a functioning church like Mission San Xavier, but it's still very interesting to visit.

This was a quick stop at a lovely historical park. There is a "ruin" of a mission, although we thought it was quite well-preserved. They offer free tours or you can go on your own with a printed guide book that they loan you. The garden in the courtyard is lovely.

Nice mission that's better preserved than many. The booklet they give is good for a self-guided tour so you can take the time you want. There were more stops and explanations in the guide than I expected for the size. Interesting to read about the politics of the time. This included Jesuits and Franciscans and King Carlos of Spain along... More
