Watched a Travel Channel thingy and decided I wanted to do this. Took wife along and it was a good time. Sorta felt like Grand Canyon as we followed the path up the inside of the crater. Got to top and you can see entire south side of Oahu and even Maui from an old army artillery bunker. Cool view... more

If your in Honolulu and look at beautiful Diamond Head from Waikiki and wonder what it's like at the top, you should try the walk up Diamond Head State Monument. You can catch a bus from Waikiki and it only takes about 10 mins drive but it only drops you off at the bottom of the road leading to the... more

We walked from Hilton Hawaiian Village to Diamond Head and I am so surprised we were able to hike to the top! We should have taken the local bus which is 22 or 23 and would have been there just fine. We didn't realize the walk was going to be so long. At the end it was well worth it.... more

The hike was to say the least, quite streneous. It was only .8 miles to the top but it worked all my leg muscles and it was an adventure in itself. From the moment you left the flat parking lot, the paved path, to the rutted rocky natural path, to the tunnel, to the spiral stairs, to the abutement at... more

When I read reviews of Diamond Head it kept talking about stairs... please note... you've got a long way to go up an uneven rocky pathway before you get to the steep concrete staircase at the top. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we did it and we'd do it again b/c the view is fantastic and the climb is... more

Yes, it was a hike but not as bad as I thought it would be. We went later in the afternoon to avoid the crowds, wore our sneakers and brought water. My daughter and I had no problem even though it was very hot.....hubby kept getting a cramp in his one leg and only made it halfway up. It took... more

Like everybody mentioned, get there early. The hike is not very difficult (my 3 year old hiked up and down on his own). Stunning views of the island from the top. more

Diamond Head has been the background of our house since I was a kid but it only took us last year to hike this wonderful landmark. Diamond head creator hike is a totally different experience. Since Hawaii is known for beaches and volcanos, tourists must not skip hiking this wonderful volcano. If you dont have a car, you can take... more

We hiked up Diamond Head in early July, with a guided tour which we paid extra for. I was happy with the tour guide and bus ride to the park, but you could certainly do this climb on your own and avoid the extra fees. I am not in good shape, I was able to do the climb up but... more

Definitely plan your trek up Diamond Head for when the park opens at 6am. Not only will you get an awesome view of Oahu at sunrise, but you'll also avoid the heat. Be sure to bring bottled water, and wear a solid pair of shoes (no flip-flops!). It will help in you're in shape, as it is a hearty climb... more
