I was not impressed the last time I went to Mammoth Springs, July 2009. Last time I went was August 2004. It was too much walking for nothing. Next time I would take the Terrace Drive and get out and look. Then I would park in the last parking available heading North as you head into the Mammoth city area.... more

While based in Canyon Lodge my family visited Mammoth Hot Springs. Loved the fascinating Hot Spring Terraces. Restaurant that is across the street from the big Mammoth Hotel is very very good. The terraces full of water are amazing. The colors of the mineral formations range from bright white to tan to brown. Plan on spending an hour or more exploring all of the different areas. I loved the Mammoth Hot Springs area, there are so many interesting and unique formations. There are two parts to the Mammoth Hot Springs, the Upper Terrace Drive and the Main Terrace Walk. Toured in July, 2007. I'm not really sure what the negative reviews below are about. I thought this was a great geological wonder. There was water actively still working when I was there. The water is at work throughout but not the bursting geysers of other parts of the park if that's what you're expecting. I found the colors amazing.... more
