You must do this when you visit Puerto Rico. It is absolutely fascinating. Book in advance. Do not wait until you are at your hotel because they will be sold out. Do the later shift from 9 - 12 and choose the kayak because you will view the bioluminescence best when it is darker. We used Island Kayak Adventures. The... More

We took the electric boat instead of canoeing. Canoes can tip over with the upstream current and it is pitch black making it difficult for people to see through the man groves, which are pretty. I thought the entire bay would be glowing but not the case. It's an okay excursion.

Puerto Rico has one of the highest concentrations of these bioluminescent plankton, so this cannot be missed. I have done this in Phuket, Thailand and the glow here in Fajardo is far brighter. Unfortunately, we went on a moonlit night. Moonless would be better. But still we could see the glow very clearly. There are about 9 companies offering this... More

I have been in a boat to the bio bay in La Paragua. It was so cool. But our last trip to Puerto Rico we visited the bio bay in Fajardo. We took one of the kayaking trips. I highly recommend doing it this way! It was remarkable, and with no moon. It was perfect. Kayaking in the middle of... More

I think most of the companies overbook and take too many people each tour. I have been kayaking before, but at least half of our very large group had a LOT of trouble and kept hitting other kayak's, loosing control and weren't able to stop, or just stopping without any notice. Instruction was given before we left, but I think... More

I had no idea what to expect when people told me the water glows, but it really does! Just when disturbed it glows, not just sitting there. It really was one of the coolest things I had ever seen!

It was the highlight of our trip to peurtoRico followed closely by our stay in Las Casitas. Our son enjoyed waving his magic wand (A plastic wand given by the captain of our boat). Spotting the Iguanas hiding in the trees using the spot lights of the boat was quite exciting to my son. Captain Ron and his helper were... More

My wife and I have never kayaked before, so I'll start by saying that because you'll be kayaking (two person) down a narrow mangrove channel at night, that this excursion can be frustrating for first time kayakers. Once we got things figured out - mostly on the return trip - we enjoyed it a lot. If you've never tried kayaking... More

This is one of the Must-do's in PR. We preferred taking electric boat (instead of kayaking at night). Try splashing some water in the bay and you will see how the water glows. We booked our tour with East Island Excursion. The guide was awesome giving details about the bioluminescent bay as well as the night sky.
