We went on the Milford flight and cruise in December 2009 and it was a fantastic experience. It is expensive (although all the operators seemed to charge the same and many of the trips were cheaper when you booked in NZ rather than booking before your holiday) but I'd say worth every penny. My girlfriend and I did the flight from Wanaka to Milford Sound in Jan 2008. It's a 45 min flight in a little 5 seater plane to Millford Sound, then a 2 hours cruise then the 45min fl;ight back to Wanaka. The views are amazing both in the air and on Milford Sound. Milford Sound was high on our list of 'things to do in NZ', but being at the extremities of the south island made it difficult to fit into our tight schedule.
