a must see! great place and only 4 euros to enter to see a piece of history. it was amazing to walk round the ruins, walk up steps that are thousands of years old and imagine the palace. the only dislike was the lack of info they don't give you about the different places in the palace would be nice... Crete is full of ruins and it can be difficult to decide which to visit. Having visited Knossos and spent most of the day queueing in sweltering heat to grab the briefest of glimpses of largely reconstructed ruins my advice would be to visit the Palace of Malia instead. You do have to pay but it is much cheaper than... More

The digging at the site of Malia has stayed true to the ancient palace. See how the Minoans prayed, find the earliest recorded symbol from which Hitler took the Swastika, check out the ancient storage containers. All this in a wonderful setting, sea to the north and mountains to the south. The guides/guards are knowledgeable and helpful. Enjoy the chance... More

The site is very atmospheric and worth a visit. Try to avoid the hottest part of the day and it is quite exposed. It's easy to imagine ancient civilisation living in the area.

Looked like a great day out with adequate facilities. We went to visit but staff were on strike so could not go in. Had a look from the perimiter fence and looked interesting.

The Malia ruins are within walking distance (a couple of miles) of Malia town/beach and well worth making the effort to go and see. Compared to the much busier, more developed site of Knossos, this is quiet, uncrowded and gives you a much better idea of what it must have been like when the palace was occupied. It's a gem... More

The Minoan Palace at Malia is best visited after seeing Knossos. At Malia, the ruins have been left as they were after the destruction of the Palace by the second earthquake, unlike Knossos, which was rebuilt after that earthquake, and then re-constructed by Arthur Evans upon his excavation of the site in the early 1900's. Malia gives a better impression... More
