The Castle and its grounds are used for many events from pop concerts to medieval weekends. A well kept Castle in some well kept grounds. If they run the Medieval Weekend again go to it - free entry and a great walk round the days of Robin Hood etc - pig roasts, weapon making, archery competitions and everyone dressed up.... More

I go every year to the Dickens Festival and a trip to the castle is a must. Very good views over Medway.

A little dangerous in wet weather, nonetheless this is a good pile of stones to visit, especially on a sunny day and Rochester does get them. The history of the area & castle combine with its use as a modern concert & music venue, make it a must. If you are in Rochester, there are car and coach parking available.... More

This place is aweomse if you like castles, otherwise you will probabaly be disapointed just looking around some windy stone walls. I luckily happned to visit on a day when there was a wedding at the cathedral next door and happily watched the build up from the top of the castle, the views are amazing and I would suggest a... Cor, there are some steps in this place, but the view is worth the meander through the ruined castle. Not much to see or learn about inside, as the real history isn't known (lots of speculation on the information boards). Worth a (one time) visit if in Rochester, but don't travel especially.

I first visited the castle back in the late seventies, but not since. However, I recently watched the film "Ironclad", which gives a true account of the seige of the castle by King John following the signing of the Magna Carta, and so I was inspired to return and did so this March. The town of Rochester is a typical... More
