We live not far away so are frequent visitors. the ruins are lovely and if you are lucky enough to go when something different is on you are sure to enjoy the setting. There are some lovely rambles round about the abbey and the tea rooms are pretty good too. You can team this visit up with one to the... More

This place is great for social historians and families alike. The abbey ruins are extensive and stunning. It's a beautiful and varied walk from Helmsley just 3 miles away, you can take sandwiches and use it as your lunch stop or use the cafe on site and retrace your steps back afterwards. The Abbey is fabulous for adults and kids... More

Conveniently located just outside of Helmsley. A beautiful, peaceful site which inspires contemplation and restfulness. Well documented with nice guest services and taped tour included in admission.

Extremely interesting. Great detail in self guided tour. We were first visitors of the day on a freezing cold May day, but thoroughly enjoyed it. The English Heritage staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful, tearoom has great views of ruins and lovely menu.

We really enjoyed our visit here. Very atmospheric and peacefull. The audio tour is well worth having too. I reckon we spent a good two hours in the abbey grounds and it retained our interest throughout. Well done English Heritage. The nearby Terrace and Temples is a good visit also and offers great views of the abbey. Would recommend going... More

We had wanted to visit Rievaulx for a long time since visiting Helmsley on a separate occasion and we weren't disappointed. You get a real sense of history and can easily imagine what life must have been like for the Cistercians who lived there. You get an audio guide which is definitely a plus as it brings to life the...
