El Capricho, the famous work of Gaudi was build as a summerhouse in Comillas for Maximo Diaz de Quijano, but it has later housed a restaurant, but when we where there it was closed, so we could only admire the castle from the outside. It is very impressive.

A beautiful, fascinating place. The house is largely unfurnished but there are still loads of details that made it a lovely way to spend an hour (more if you're into architecture and/or don't have hungry child in tow). There's an informative video on a loop that's worth watching to help you look out for things you might otherwise miss. Good...

El Capricho is one of the first examples of Gaudí's work! He was building it at the same time as Casa Vincens, in Barcelona. It is one of the 3 only examples of Gaudí's work outside of Catalonia (the other 2 being one in Astorga and the other in León). The house has one floor, an attic and a basement,...

We've been to walk around the Capricho many times with visiting friends and family, it's a lovely building and definately worth a look. However, when we went back again this summer we discovered the whole area cordened off, the restaurant closed, and a charge being made to get into the area and see the building (it is very cleverly done...
