We were the first visitors of the day, and judging the extent of the undergrowth, possibly of the season! One of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world, this is a great site to explore. And you will have to explore, because the signage and information is pretty basic. But it makes for a fascinating visit. As we were there... More

A beautiful site which has a wonderful atmosphere although it is very much a ruin with just one pillar restored to give a sense of scale.Quite well explained. The fact that it was deserted made it all the better. But it does shut quite early - three o'clock, I think.

Herodotus considered this temple to be the largest in Greece. It's now pretty much in ruins, but the surrounding landscape is very beautiful. It's worth a visit just to see the area and the very impressive walkway up to the temple area. Also found this site was not so crowded as many others, and there was a nice breeze.

I've been in Samos before one week (June 2010) and I visited Heraion. It was a very disapointing experience. The whole site was very badly preserved. The road inside the archeological site was covered with weed with the risk of snakes dashing. I paid 3 euros and there was no instructions, no leaflet or map of the site and the... More

We visited the Temple of Hera in Ireon August 2009 and found the quality and quantity of archaeology truly spectacular. The well identified sites with illustrated maps were very easy to read and understandable. My only concern was the lack of handouts, leaflets or information for the casual visitor. I had already read up on the site and have a... More
