Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We tried to visit on the Monday of Memorial Day, and had a fair drive to do so (including paying extra for a cross border rental, as we rented in Germany). We got there at 4:45 pm when the cemetery closed at 5 pm. We were not only not allowed in but were not even allowed to turn around in the parking lot--and the entrance is on a narrow country road. I understand the need to keep proper hours, but a 5 min look would have sufficed, and we were there before closing.

We wanted to pay our respect to the liborators of our country. Unfortunately we were not welcome with our 2 small dogs. It was supposed to be disrespectfull. No idea why suppose some of the military had dogs of there own. We were advised to leave the dogs in the car althoug it was sunny. Not a good idea according to us. Not respectfull to animals. So we went away without visiting. Too bad 😒

We've visited several English and Canadian cemeteries in the Netherlands. This field of honor is for all American soldiers who fought for the liberation of the Netherlands 75 years ago. More than 10,000 Americans are buried in Margraten. It is certainly overwhelming to see so many white marble crosses on the green field. Respect.

Although closed due to COVID19, you can walk by from a backroad called the Hoogsteeg. As we were staying in a cottage just around the corner, I walked by during a short walk in the neighbourhood.

It still is very impressive to see, every time I see it. We must never forget the sacrifice these men gave for our freedom.

Something I still don’t understand, is why there is a gate on the Rijksweg while there is a hedge just over half a metre high on the backroad. It would never come into my mind to jump the fence, nor am I suggesting people should do! But from a security perspective I just don’t get it.

I recon it's one of my duties as an Dutch citizen to pay my respect for those who give their lives during WWII.
All the American cemeteries look spotless and are well maintained with military precision.

We were traveling all around the Netherlands and my husband had been to Masstricht on several business trips. So on this trip he wanted to take me to Masstricht. I fell in love with the city.

He decided he want to go see the U.S. Cemetery where the soldiers are buried. We drove out and it was not a long drive at all from where we were staying. It’s on what I call a country road . We pulled in and parking was free. They have restrooms on site and also a building you can go into, sort of like a visitor’s center. Inside the building you will find some pamphlets and information about the site. There is also pictures of some of the men who lost their lives. I cried when I read them, very moving.

We walked out and visited several graves and walked around looking and feeling very humble. It was very emotional for me that all these men died in this war.

So if you ever get a chance while your in Masstricht, go and visit. You’ll come away feeling so proud of these men who gave their lives for all of us.

We stayed in Margraten for a couple of days, but unfortunately the cemetery was closed due to COVID19 until further notice. Luckily, there’s a dirt road that takes enables you drive by and see the cemetery from the back. Driving by and seeing all the white crosses was very impressive. Would like to visit again when the cemetery is open.

Especially as a US citizen I felt it was important to stop and spend a few mins reflecting on the sacrifice of earlier generations. The cemetery is small enough it only takes 30 mins to walk the monuments and take in the atmosphere.
The maps are interesting and give context, but if you know high level WWII history they aren't going to tell you anything new.
