Facilities do not abound but the topography is worth the trip. Many coves have been carved out of the coast by the sea which will continue to change the landscape over the years. Good fish restaurants in the area.
A very nice beach please visit it and keep it nude reasently it has been taken over by textiles and the sunbed monster is creeping over the hill. The sand is rather coarse unlike at Matala but well work the walk and take water with you The sunsets are stunning Andrew
In those days it was mostly Germans there and a few Brits, the liberty to swim without bathing stuff on is phantastic. It was very unofficial then and you had to be a bit discrete and tactful, Greece was different so many years ago.The walk is ok, just as well a bit longer than you think, makes it all more...

We thought we would try this beach after seeing some good reviews but I must say it is a very difficult hike/climb up the side of a steep hill and then down a very steep valley. Not for the faint-hearted. Follow the arrows and good luck to you.Don't try to carry too much with you on this assault.

Red Beach is a mere 30 minutes from our summer place in the mountains above the Town of Tymbaki. I left Canada to spend the summers of 2009 and 2010 there. Will be returning of course. It's one of the best beaches I've found for swimming with the water usually calm and extremely warm compared to other areas near by...

Unfortunately the main nude beach of Kommos is closed due to a church being built nearby. Red Beach is nude but is small and a hard hot walk with virtually no facilities. However Matala is a fabulous town and the normal beach is very good
My wife and I visited Red Sand Beach on a sea kayaking trip with Northwest Passage while staying in Matala. It was a great introduction to the beaches of southern Crete we would visit in the next week on our trip. The beach was a simple hike (well worth it) and not crowed. The other quests on the beach were...

We went to Crete in 1973 and spent a month there as part of a 3 month honeymoon. One of the many highlights was our visit to this beach(I didn't know it had a name). It was a great day, everybody was cool, and it was especially funny when a US Marine helicopter flew overhead and the men hung out the...

My first time on this spot was in 1973. Fond memories attached. (My wife still doesn't know the full story). Well worth the walk, although it obviously isn't as secluded as it used to be.
