We decided to go to this after it was recommended by our hotel. It was well worth our time and was very eye opening to the plight of the Irish people and the famine. interesting, nice experience. Nice little cafe. Went when vintage car rally on so was even more amazing. Good for a day out.

static exhibition, poorly laid out, chronology missing, jumbled exhibits more information available in books entry fee prohibitive, poor value

If you are interested in the history of the Irish people this is a great place to go. both the museum and the house are a mine of information on how and the rich and the poor lived in the past couple of centuries

Strokestown house is a wonderful mix of history. Set in the grounds of a landlords home it tells the story of the Irish famine from a different point of view. A tour of the former estate of the Mahon family;and adjacent museum depicts the contrasts of lives lived during the famine. Exhibits explain the pre-famine dietary habits and the impact of the potato blight: also details the horror of the coffins ships..

An excellent center to educate yourself about the history of the great famine; the events leading up to it and the after effects. First tour the main house where you learn about the lives of the rich class and the part they played then visit the famine museum to learn about the rest of the people in ireland that suffered...
