This was another of my wives "want's to do." Very easy to find, although the entrance off the main road was a bit confusing. Maybe the sign pointing the entrance could be bigger? The car park is a bit away from the house & up a steep climb, so if you have walking difficulties this may poae a problem. We... More

Gawthorpe Hall was built in the early 1600s with some renovations in Victorian times. It has the usual hallmarks of a jacobean hall - lots of dark wood carved furniture and panelling, very ornate plaster ceilings and portraits from the National Portrait Gallery but what is special is situated on the first floor - an exhibition of various vintage clothing... The gardens and estate are somewhat lacklustre but this is more than made up for by the fascinating interiors that have been filled with period furniture and items that ooze with historical interest! Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

What a marvellous collection of textiles, embellished in so many different ways and from all over the world.

The part open to the public is only small so you don't get overloaded with history (that's a positive thing for me). The embroidery collections are beautiful. We have been to a couple of outdoor theatre company performances here which have been very good.

I'd never heard of this house but found it on VisitLancashire - was drawn by exhibtion just opened on the Pendle witches. What a treasure this house is! Overshot drive entrance first time but well worth going back to (brown signs on highwaysand better sign at entrance when coming from Padiham would be a good idea!) - long drive at first... More

This is another nice National Trust site - Friendly staff when you get there, some nice walks in the grounds as well. Tea Room had nice drinks and cakes and kids loved the activities in the attic.

A lovely house but not very many facilities, would be hard pressed to spend more than a couple of hours there.
