The Pyrenees are a great alternative to the Alps. La Mongie and Bareges make up Tourmalet, the largest ski area in the French Pyrenees...great for every level of skier and with a great snow record. Half the price of any resort in the Alps, for a start ! Snow not as reliable though and gets very busy during school holidays.

It is given to be the largest ski domain in yhe Pyrenees : It is wrong. Only a few tracks where open, the people went on a kind of a strike, and the were not ready on time. Only a part of the ski domain is open, but they charge you the full price...

La Mongie is one of the two entrances to the "Domaine Du Tourmalet " ski area, the other is Barèges. It is based around a valley and mountain pass, the "Col Du Tourmalet", famous as a mountain climb on the Tour de France. Basically you have skiing on the La Mongie side, and can take a lift to the top... More
