Firstly we paid a tour 800BHAT each, to drive for hours and see a plank of wood that said this was the highest point. Then was served terrible food with flies buzzing around, with a terrible tour guide who was VERY LAZY. This is not a walk, or hike, its a long drive OK scenery and a complete waste of... More

OK, the best part about this was the cold. Having lived here so long you get bored with hot temps all the time, so to get down to single digits on the Celsius was really cool. The king and queens chess piece park thing is very nice also and the view across the provinces stunning.

Thailand's highest mountain and you can access the top easily. Nice Facebook pic from here! A trip from Chiang Mai in a minibus, 10 people left at 8am and visited two beautiful waterfalls, the peak, a fruit market, gardens and a tribal village with good local coffee. All easy walking, no hiking here, 5 mins was the most we had... More

The highest point in Thailand is a 2 hour drive by private car from Chiang Mai with a 45 minute drive to the top, your ears pop several times.Twisting road that passes through small villages and eating places we stopped for a whole chicken , salad, fried rice and 4 drinks at a cost of 260 baht (nothing like a... Somewhat of a ride south of town. At the top is not much, but there is a nice temple monument a little way down. Some tours visit a nice big lunch place, but we took our own and were happy about that.

It takes about 1h to 1h30 to go from Chiang Mai. Lots of organising tour can bring you there for a day trip. It cost us 1250 baths per person for the drive, food, entrance fee for national park and pagoda. The waterfalls are splendid and I can't remember which one but one of them you can get quite close... We only made it to the first two waterfalls in this park, but they were breathtaking. Well worth the trip.

We rented a motorbike from the night before and went on our own, which is doable but it happened to rain so check the weather first! The waterfalls are worth seeing, each different from each other and accessible from near the road.
