Traveling off the beaten path is usually rewarding. The vistas, the nearly uninterrupted wildlife, and the uniqueness of the experience that you can call your own--are reasons why we make our own unique journeys. The Station of San Gerardo can be found by hiking up and down mountains that are within the regions of the cloud and rainforests (2 hours).... More

I visited the reserve as a field trip for an class about Ecotourism. The trails are some of the most beautiful that I have ever seen because the forest is so pristine. Even in the areas that are second growth, the quantity of plants is incredible. We hiked to a beautiful waterfall. We stayed one night in the San Gerardo... More

Our trip to the rainforest was definately worth the hikes and hole digging. The Don Giovanni was really nice and accomidated to our needs, it was fun to give a helping hand to him and his family.

I really enjoyed my experience in the Rain Forest. The long hike to the lodge was worth it! I enjoyed walking around the rainforest and seeing all the plant life and the waterfall! The best part of visiting the rainforest was volunteering in the morning. We went and dug trenches along the path ways so that water would be diverted... More

Hiked into the rainforest and stayed the night at San Gerardo Biological Station. Did day and night hikes, and also some volunteer work on trail upkeep. Incredible experience. If you are in Costa Rica and want to really experience the rainforest while you still can, you should definitely take advantage of this opportunity. The family that runs the biological station... We did a night hike in the Rain Forest. They provided us with flashlights and a very knowledgable guide. Unfortunately the wind came up very strong, and although we had no rain, many of the animals were hiding from the wind. We did get to see a quetzal and a few other birds and many insects. All in all it... More

Really nice way to stay deep in the forest without needing to worry about logistics. The views are outrageous... the night we were there we saw a sunset with a double rainbow, amazing colors reflecting in lake arenal, lightening lighting up the volcano from behind, fireflies, bats, owls, and great stars. The trails and forest are great, the balcony is... More

The Children's Eternal Rainforest is amazing in so many ways. It was started when a group of 6th graders in Sweden who were studying Costa Rica started raising money to save some rain forest. Soon it spread; kids in 44 countries have raised money, and it's the largest private reserve in the country. My favorite is to do the 1.5... More

An amazing place. Far, far up in the rain forest--the drive was tricky (they mean it when they say you have to have a tough 4x4) but it gave us the feeling that we were far away from anywhere, high in the clouds. The lodge is wonderful--think Swiss Family Robinson. The food is nourishing, and tasty, served family-style, Tico-style. The people... More

The perfect pace to get away from the crowds and the tour buses. We didn't see any other groups on the trails during our four hours there. Being lower than the Monteverde Cloud Reserve, it has a different feel. We heard the "BONKS" from the birds on the Bell bird trail and then saw one at the end of our... More
