I want to add my 2¢ on the physical challenges of Boiling Lake bec. I really relied on others' comments. But first, a GUIDE REC, because ours was wonderful: Call Mio! He's at WhatsApp, +1 767-295-3565, or email miandolewis58@gmail.com. You can also request him through Khatts Tours.

Our party of 5 - two U.S. couples and a solo traveler from Saint Lucia - were randomly assigned to one another and to Mio, and happy for it! Mio knows the trail like an old friend and has a lovely manner and sense of humor. He's a font of info on plant and animal life, history + geography, but more important, He Can Tell You Where to Step. Sounds dumb, I know ( I was skeptical when others said it), but this trail is slippery, rock-strewn, alternately dry scree or mud that will suck your shoe off. You likely WILL slip and maybe land on your butt (so don't wear clothes you care about). We did other Dominica hikes sans guide, but for this challenging trail, being shown the best way down, up or around the tricky parts made all the difference. Mio had a good sense of who needed advice or a hand to grab and when, yet let our more capable hikers do their own thing. He kept us together and smiling. [And Dominica guides like him are *licensed,* trained in First Aid, etc., and quizzed on their knowledge of the area.]

The hike is gorgeous: mountain views + wildly mixed terrain -- rain forest, cloud forest, rivers, streams, waterfalls, sulfur springs in the "Valley of Desolation" and then up again to a clifftop view of the mind-blowing cauldron. It covers dirt paths, mud tracks, log steps, stone "steps," rock scrambles and actual bouldering, plus stream-crossings. That's ~3+ hours. Then you picnic and ... do it all in reverse. It's a supposedly 13.65 mi. round-trip w/total vertical ascent around 2,000+ feet.

So how hard is it? As a 60yo woman who works out, does weights, and routinely jogs 3-4 miles, I can say that it is damn hard. On the return trip I "bonked," possibly from dehydration, panting and nauseated w/heart racing. Could manage maybe 20 steps at a time. This is when Mio really proved his mettle, encouraging me and offering a hand up until we reached the last descent and, w/water and raisins and chocolate, I recovered enough to hike normally again, if slowly. Our group's other female hiker, also fit and a few years younger, slowed down as well. We spent 8 hours total; the men would have taken about 7. Then we revived ourselves in Titou Gorge.

I am so happy I did it, with zero regrets. But maybe not twice!

The trip through the Gorge was so worth it. I can be a little claustrophobic but never felt uncomfortable swimming to the waterfall and back. The water is cold but not numbing. It was so worth it. See the blue skies above framed with the lush tropical plants was beautiful and the water fall at the end is so powerful.

Of course, seeing the location from a scene from the Pirates of the Carribean was an added bonus!!!

Nice drive to the falls with a local tour operator, steep narrow roads with interesting trees and plants along the way. Falls are an easy ten minute hike on a maintained trail. Two falls side by side are at the end with good photo opportunities.

Another beautiful enclave of Dominica. Easy to get to by excursion or rental car. You have to pay a small entrance fee, but access to the waterfall and pool is easy. Cool waters, but ideal given the humidity of the place.

Wonderful tour up the River into a Rain Forest area- twisted trees, tropical flowers at the hidden Bar, local man rows your boat ( 8 passengers) into the dark Forest. After a 30 minute ride, you receive Rum Punch at the Bar, a bathroom nearby and GO DOWN the trail off to the right- hidden flowers galore! This trip is well worth your time and money!

When you get there and find it - it is great. However it is not that easy. Be warned. If you go in a taxi (as we did) it is a fairly long, very difficult walk along an extremely rocky beach.
The taxi will drop you off at a very nice area (small fee) with a bar and sunbeds but the bubbles are way up the beach. Where the buoys are.
I would recommend you go via boat. Much easier.
Snorkelling is not much better than anywhere else but the bubbles are worth seeing.

Amazing Tour of Victoria Falls with a very special guide, Kurt Jeremy of KHATTS. Kurt ensured our excursion was safe and adventurous. I can’t thank Kurt enough for his excellent service and expertise.

My husband and I had the most amazing experience indulging in volcanic mud to a variety of hot springs.

Everyone along our journey that day were so kind and generous with knowledge.

I highly recommend screws mud baths and springs!

Delightful and friendly sisters Irma and Jacqueline run the cafe on this amazing beach (the best beach in Dominica). We had already eaten so only had some homemade coconut ice cream (divine!) and some delicious home made rum punch. The other food looked delicious and we planned to return specially to try it but sadly the weather did not allow access to the rough track down on this occasion.

The beach itself is certainly worth negotiating the road down (if you have a four wheel drive) if not you can park on the road at the top and walk down.
It really is like the Caribbean beach of your dreams - quiet, soft fine golden sand etc etc.

The beach cafe is the icing on the cake …… this beach just keeps giving!

Almost all of Dominica's beaches are black sand, but this is one of the best and with the best services, including sunbed rentals.
Hot and transparent water. Several beach bars where you can eat at reasonable prices.
