I’ve wanted to visit this place during every trip to Clermont. I finally did it but wish I would have done it sooner. It is well worth the country drive (20min or so from CF). Parking is FREE. The train to the top is less than $20pp. If you want to though, do like I did and say you climbed it, it’s a FREE hike (you’ll even get to remember it…as your legs will throb for days afterward). Equivalent to 113 flights of stairs!!! Then climb is steady at 7+% grade (it doesn’t flatten until the very top). It only takes 45+ minutes (without stopping, which is HARD to do). If you are older or have kids, expect it to take 60 minutes or more with stops! It is the hardest hike I’ve ever done and I hike a lot. But well worth the trip to the top. On one side of the weather station at the top, people skydive off the side of the mountain. Just across the walkway from that is the museum and reconstruction of the Roman temple to Mercury that is also interesting. Plan to take several water bottles per person and plan at least 2 hrs minimum to go up and down (more if you walk at a normal pace). I jogged down in 16 minutes. There is a small restaurant (if you want to call it that) at the top and souvenir gift shop with minimal items. Wear a backpack, brings some snacks (and dogs if they like to walk) and start your trek up the mountain. Oh and I hiked it on Sep 24, 2023; it was extremely windy up there. Temperature will drop 10-20 degrees F by the time you reach the top. Wear a jacket in the fall, my hands froze.

The chateau is a stunning building high on a hill overlooking Murol. It is a good 40 minute walk, very steep, from the centre of the village.
The chateau is well preserved and all parts are accessible. The central courtyard, the banqueting hall , the kitchens bedrooms and cellars are furnished and equipped to show medieval life. It is beautifully done and explains the historical angle well. The views from the castle over Murol and the surrounding countryside are spectacular. and it is easy to see how it dominated the area.
In high season, there are jousting and other displays.
    Well worth a visit.

I rate this museum 5 stars because it is everything an attraction should be. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the features and information are fun, interesting, interactive and accessible to all. I particularly liked the sensory board to enable people with a visual impairment or disability to fully engage with the experience. Also the small portable stools allow for people to rest while walking around if they need to.

The information and story of Michelin is shown in at least French and English. We visited as a couple but there were lots of children and families visiting too and all children seemed to be really enjoying themselves.

Parking is good, the museum is well laid out and every exhibit was fantastic. To be honest all of the French attractions I have been to have been excellent and reasonable priced, but this is a lovely place to spend a couple of hours. You will come away feeling happy and knowing much more about Michelin past, present and future.

The visit is composed of several elements. The time of the booking is the time of the entrace to the area. The visit starts with an exhibition, continues as a train ride (if pre-booked so, alternatively on foot) and some movie at the end. It's interesting even for non French-speakers. There are headphones with translation available.

The price of the ticket is too expensive for what it is, especially for students which is perhaps interesting in their studies.

The Lake Pravin is absolutely stunning. The walk around it took an hour for people of relatively good fitness however it may take longer depending on how much you stop and how fit you are. One of the most incredible features of the lake is the colour, a turquoise blue. Swimming isn’t permitted in the Lake however dipping your feet in from the side is fine. There is a restaurant overlooking the lake, we didn’t go there but it looked relatively full. The Lake Pravin definitely deserves a rating of 5 stars.

This is an unusual building in that it is built using lava and that is why it is very dark, almost black. The inside is dark also but with wonderful stained glass windows. It is free to enter.

A striking waterfall over volcanic rock beside a beautiful river an easy walk from the nearby car park (although we walked there from the town). Better still, however, is the Cascade du Queureuilh just a little further on—not to be missed.

Great hike, mainly gentle climb through forest, so shaded. Stairs down give great views of Puy de Dome. It is forbidden to descend into the crater currently while this is being protected. Park in the Parking des Goules. There is a map of the Puys to help guide you. Trails are well marked.

We walked up to the cable car station from the centre of Mont Dore (a lovely walk on a warm day). From the top station there is an exhilarating walk up to the summit (several hundred steps!) but the look-out points offered the most wonderful views with the summit providing the best of all. Spectacular.

This is a delightful place to visit. In peak periods it can be busy and you might find yourself having to park in one of the remoter car parks (there are six). It's set on the side of a wooded hill and the animals are given plenty of room. Walking through the gibbon enclosure is great fun (they don't bight). The paths are well paved but the upper parts are a bit steep. There are four restaurants. The views across the valley and towards the Allier are a treat in themselves.
