What travellers are saying
- Patti V2 contributionsIt was amazing to walk in our father’s footsteps and meet the wonderful docents keeping the 390th Bomb Groups sacrifices and memories alive.Written 11 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ShaunH290London, UK2,331 contributionsHaving seen the most famous treasures from Sutton Hoo in the British Museum several times, we were interested to see where they originated. The burial mounds are not exactly inspiring, but the story laid out in Tranmer House is engrossing. How amateurs made such a difference to our understanding of the Anglo-Saxons!
I loved the graphic interpretation of the buckle and good to see that at least some treasures have been kept on site.
Well worth going - and free for National Trust members!Written 15 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We visit Suffolk very regularly yet somehow we've never visited this museum before, maybe because it only opens every other Sunday but also because the unassuming signage had made me think there wouldn't be much to see. How wrong could I be!
The museum itself is FULL of well laid out, interesting and insightful information, pictures and models. In addition to talking about the planes, the museum goes into lots of detail about life on the base and how they operated in the cold war. They even have a complete control room!
There a number of planes outside, but go on the minibus tour to the restoration hanger - it is excellent. In there we saw a lightning, meteor, jaguar and T33 all undergoing various stages of restoration. You are shown around by the guys who are actually doing the voluntary restoration and their knowledge and passion is obvious.
Finally there's a great little shop and a café selling excellent, and very cheap, food ... i think a large hotdog and a coffee only cost me £4!Written 17 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Really well presented - other museums could learn a lot. Friendly lady at the entrance gave us a warm welcome and shared her local knowledge. Will definitely visit again when in the area.Written 6 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Megan HLondon, UK13 contributionsSpent a lot of summer days in this park, small enough to feel intimate but big enough to have your own space. Lovely environment and love the band stand!Written 20 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Denys L1 contributionI went with my cousin’s daughter and her children. The children’s observers booklet really helped to focus the children’s interest and ensure they had full enjoyment of the whole site. Everyone was so friendly and we had a wonderful day. A Suffolk treasure that needs to be shared or it will be lost- do visit.Written 26 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MORLondon, UK51 contributionsI love Marlesford Mill. It's a glorious hodgepodge of vintage/antique pieces, full of stuff, treasures and curiosities. Half the joy is just looking around for something you absolutely must have -- the times I've left something I "don't need" behind still haunt me. I can't think of a nicer way to spend an hour or two.Written 16 August 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Alison C1 contributionOnly open weekends and bank holidays but some lovely artwork, pottery and lace. Very reasonable prices for original work too. Some very talented artists! Lovely setting next to the Tide Mill. Great for presents.Written 13 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jenny24 contributionsBit early for many bluebells but a delightful walk through gorse heath to access the wood which was lovely. A stoat ran across our path and then a herd of fallow deer crossed the clearing just ahead of us. Not difficult to find if you keep your eyes open. The parking area along School Road is on the right from Sudbourn and signed Sudbourn Wood and there is a sign pointing back to the village to the pedestrian access for Captain's Wood.
No dogs are allowed in the wood.Written 27 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Very old in places and lots of interesting items, eg the tapestry.Written 3 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
