The Baldwin Home was built in 1834 and served as the home of a practicing physician, Rev. Dwight Baldwin who is credited for saving the people of Maui, Molokai and Lanai from the scourge of smallpox during the terrible epidemic of 1853. The home itself, its household furniture, aged photographs, artifacts, displays and library present a fascinating picture of the busy Sandwich Isles life as lived by a missionary who was both a physician and a constructive community force.

An easy self guided walking tour of approximately 10 acres with a helpful hand drawn map. Free parking area with a $3 per person entrance fee. Mostly tropical flowers and fruits and most of the plants the Hawaiians brought in their canoes to help them survive. A good place to get out of the car and stretch. No botanical names but if the owner is present, she is always ready to talk plants.
