The Luengoni beach on Lifou island is known as one of the most beautiful. You have so much incredible beaches in New Caledonia and still more in "Loyauté" islands... So all is subjective but it's true that this really long white sandy beach with its curve is incredible. Under the sun the white sand takes all is beauty and the coral rocks in the sea enforce this beauty of nature. Very known by tourists but as all the beaches in New Caledonia, almost nobody on it... The large space you have to put your towel allow you generally to enjoy this beach as a Robinson. You can find shadow at different places (in the back of the beach) and it's easy to stop and join it (even if in the North side, there are lot of houses along the street (hiding a bit some entrances). You have a clear entrance with parking at South end of this wonderful place. You can swim easily with no current and join some small coral reef where you'll find lot of life and its known here that you can see turtles more easily than elsewhere. Be respectful of this wild life please (don't stress the turtles)...

the island is amazing, such beachful waters. The people welcoming, helpful the only issue is the amount of tourist all at once, is overwhelming at times, and i was on the ship with them.one thing I will say is if the adventures are not mentioned in the travel guides, then they might not be covered by your insurance if something happens to you, just keep that in mind as in cave tours.

The tender from the ship takes about 10 minutes and immediately you are aware of the crystal clear water as you walk from the dock. Its a couple of minute walk uphill to the tiny village where is a meeting place for shore excursions, some little stalls selling tourist stuff and some places to buy drinks. There are places to rent snorkeling and kayaks. There is a strict dress code we were warned about - no bikinis - even on the beach, and no swimwear in the shops. The people were laid back, no pushy vendors or anything. It was a nice stop for a few hours. It was fun just walking along the beach looking at the shells and coral.

We didn’t snorkel here but just soaked in the beautiful views. If you do want to snorkel, make sure you have cash or else they won’t let you in the water. And they only let a certain amount of people in at a time so get there early. A short walk from the cruise port. Please see my YouTube channel for more information: Morgancita

The cave was an experience absolutely.....however, the many sleeping faces shouldn't have been woken up. They don't want people there.

Fantastic white sand beach with clear blue clear sea. A very relaxing location away from the crowds. No sun loungers or parasols to spoil the view

Very nice island. Average beaches but if you visit with a cruise line that goes to Lifou Pier (the north west of the island) then you have to go for a swim in the 'caves'. Immediately from the pier turn left and follow the sealed road uphill until you are in front of a big sign with a map of the island. Now turn right and walk for about 500m along the paved road until you see an (abandoned?) church on your left-hand side; this is eglise Catholique ne Drehu. Up to your left past the church you'll see some market places and old stone buildings; walk up there and to the north-east you'll see some ladies at a desk near a path going into the bushland. Give them AUD$10 per person and walk up the trail. There will be some people to guide you but wear runners or similar, as you have to walk along sandstone (?) paths, tree roots, etc for about 100m (?) and make your way down into the cave. There will be some lights to help you.

Inside there is a small 'beach' are where you can leave you bag and put on some reef shoes (recommended).

The fun bit is that there is really only one way to get into the water: Jump in from the ledge. You can't climb in, and the water is DEEP so don't don't worry. There is a small ledge and a rope to help you get out. The water is cool and fresh, and the cave atmosphere is fantastic.

As many people have said: best $10 I ever spent.

We visited via cruise ship the Golden Princess and this island was wonderful, I love the history of it, the locals and the 2 churches are divine. This church was built in 1898 and it was closed due to a public holiday but it is beside a cemetery and caves and is an easy walk from the dock.
