What travellers are saying
- tedactSt. Johns, FL2,881 contributionsWorth the travel. We stayed in Athens prior to a cruise. We hired a driver to visit Nafplio. This Fortress of Palamidi was fantastic. It overlooks the Bourtzi Castle and the water is beautiful. It was fun to tour the fortress. There was a small entrance fee but well worth it.Written 1 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Tommy599Two Rivers, WI874 contributionsThis is a great seaside town nestled between the mountains and the Gulf of Argolis. There we viewed charming Venetian homes and a picturesque harbor dominated by a citadel at its end, and massive fortifications at its top.
The fortresses (high point for Tom) attest to a checkered military history. After Greece’s independence from the Ottomans early in the 19th century, Nafplion became the first capital of liberated Greece.
They tell us this city is where people from Athens go on holiday today to get away from the city hustle & bustle, and we can tell you it is a beautiful place. This time of the year with all the kids in school it was NOT crowded, and it was a joy to walk around on this clear sky & 76 F Day.Written 28 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This is one of the best archaeological museums I've ever visited, not just in Argolis, but all of Greece. The way that everything is set up you really get the feeling that the museum curators love their work. If you are into the ancient history of the region, then this is a must-see!Written 18 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ChaitanyaCambridge, Canada1,243 contributionsAnother castle in Nafplion - maybe not as extensive and tiring as Palamidi castle, but impressive nonetheless.
A great place to explore and a fun and interesting way to spend the afternoon.Written 22 February 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We enjoyed learning about the distillery process and then shown around the fascinating little museum before tasting the ouzo, mastique and cherry brandy.Written 7 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - elchacoHouston, TX843 contributionsWhen we went, you couldn't go inside the fortress. The little boat tour was still pretty cool though. We go some nice pictures of it from the water. I'm sure it's much better if you get to disembark and experience it from the inside. Still, a neat little fortress out on the water.Written 3 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Evans PChambersburg, PA81 contributionsThe iconography and the many relics were all amazing! Spend some time in the church to venerate the many relics which are housed in the church.Written 3 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BrakiWorldTravelerBelgrade, Serbia17,760 contributionsIn my opinion this is the most beautiful Church in Nafplio. It also has an interesting history, as it was built in early 16 c by Venetians, which is clearly visible on its architecture, specially the bell tower.
During the later Ottoman rule it was converted into a Mosque, while after gaining independence it became a Greek Orthodox Church.
Beautiful interior with nice chandeliers, frescoes and iconostasis.Written 1 October 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Up top the hill, there isn't much to see. But, it's still a worthwhile walk around.Written 20 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tas GAthens, Greece1,423 contributionsMy friend advised me to go to that area which I didnt know that was existed. After crossing the port and after the lighthouse. This area is blocked and restricted due to the large hanging rocks. Many people were passing there. The path and the views are stunning. It worth the risk to take photos there.
This area must be maintained to avoid fatal incidents.
The beach itself was not something to mention about. Most probably because its winter and everything is closed but this is just an excuse to leave such a place at its own faithWritten 8 January 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
