What travellers are saying
- Sherry MSpringfield, MO278 contributionsWe love Winter Park and go every year.
Access: It is 90 minutes from Denver. Love Steamboat, Breck, etc. - but they are hours further.
Parking: Plenty of parking if you time it right - either early or ~ noon when people are leaving. There is also a shuttle - but we've never had to take it.
Snow: Has always been great for us from Jan to April
Ski / Snowboard: A huge mountain with plenty of lifts and runs. Good for all ski levels. Plenty of lessons and instructors.
Rentals: Rent right there at the resort for easy pickup / return and overnight storage.
Atmosphere: Fun with plenty of restaurants and bars.
Town: Great ski town with tubing hills, Hernando's pizza pub, great places to rent.Written 17 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - mark mBurlington, IA819 contributionsFine museum showing developments in the Fraser River Valley in the last 150 years. Snow was blowing outside the day we visited, the only ones inside. Nice girl gives opening presentation.Written 11 February 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Sherry MSpringfield, MO278 contributionsI booked my husband (60s) and daughter (40s) on a 10:30 am 2 hour unguided tour and they had a great time. They each had their own gas powered SkiDoo and headed out on the 2 trails - one more steep and curvy, one more straight. It was a great alternative to skiing for them. It isn't cheap - but neither is skiing. :)
If you have warm ski clothes - including goggles, gloves, and bibs - wear them. Otherwise, you can rent gear there.
The meeting point is in Winter Park and you are shuttled out to Fraser for the snow mobiles.Written 17 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Helpful staff, great selection of books, computer/printer resources, online downloads for books as well!Written 31 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - NicococureColleyville, TX301 contributionsNothing beats taking an evening walk outside your hotel, and finding a fun, free spot to sled! Our family enjoyed going down the easy hill on the park-provided tubes and saucers. The area is very pretty at night and adequately lit. Perfect for all ages.Written 21 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- ColoradoBen1Denver, CO280 contributionsThere are many ways to enjoy this area and savor it -- but my favorite way is a day hike from the summit of Berthoud Pass. There is a parking lot at the summit of the Pass -- an the Vasquez Peak Wilderness is accessed on the west side of the Pass. Note -- if you park on the east side of the pass near the bathrooms and Pass Summit marker, you will need to cross the highway and be very careful (the curves and slope make it difficult for cars and hikers to see each other)! However, once you have crossed the highway on the west side of the pass, you enter a new world!
The hike starts in the trees and you quickly (1/2 mile) reach a little saddle area with great views. From there, there is a formidable series of switch backs which you take you to a lofty alpine ridgeline. Reaching this ridgeline is an accomplishment and many turn back here as a worthy day-hike with picnic. If you continue onwards, the trail continues into the Wilderness Area (about 1.5 miles from the trailhead) and you walk through relatively flat undulating alpine tundra towards Stanley Mountain (about 3.8 miles from the trailhead). This is another worthy area to turnaround.
If you continue on this trail, you will encounter the dip known as the Stanley Plunge or Stanley Wall and climb back out to the ridgeline to reach Vasquez Peak -- the Wilderness Area namesake (about 6 miles from the trailhead). This another worthy goal. My only advice about this destination is being aware of the weather and lightening. The entire hike is above timberline and you don't want to be the tallest lightening rod!
For me, this is the closest solitude close to Denver. The local 14-ers and Herman Gulch can be mobbed in the summertime -- and I've never seen a soul on Vasquez Peak! And -- because you can see the entire route, it's hard to get lost unless your are fogged in or snowed in (yes, I've done this in July and October).
Because there are so many great stopping points along this trail from Berthoud Pass, it's a great place for families and just a lark. When I get an I-70 travel report of horrendous traffic, this is a place I'll spend a few hours at until that traffic clears -- better than sitting in a mountain traffic jam!

- pfefmeisterSan Francisco, CA3,043 contributionsLoved the local hangout vibes, as this is definitely a place where the locals congregate. Nice selections of beer - some unique like the Morket and Coffee IPA. No food, but next door hot dog stand and Subway. Cozy bar area promotes conversion, with the smell of fresh hops wafting through the atmosphere. Honestly, great ambiance and above average beers, you definitely want to pay a visit here. They do have an outside area, but on our rainy night, folks were clustered inside - along with a half dozen dogs.Written 16 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
