Owner description:
The Underwater Archaeology Centre (UAC) is a small attraction run by local charitable trust, the Hampshire and Wight Trust for Maritime Archaeology. It is housed inside five of the former gun chambers of the 19th century coastal defence, Fort Victoria. The fort now sits at the gateway to Fort Victoria Country Park, a splendid section of coastal countryside near Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight. The UAC is dedicated to the world of maritime archaeology. Its exhibits detail both local shipwrecks and submerged prehistoric landscapes in the Solent, as well as the science and technology behind this demanding type of work. Admission is £2.50 for adults, £2 for concessions/students and £1.50 for children. A family ticket for two adults and two children is £6. You will need to put aside between 30 minutes and 1 hour for your visit. Afterwards you may like to visit some of the other attractions in Fort Victoria (for which discount vouchers are available for those who have visited the UAC), or explore the beach or country park. The small gift shop at the entrance has a selection maritime themed gifts and souvenirs from the Isle of Wight. We hope you enjoy your visit!
