Gardens
Owner description: Lismore Castle Gardens and Gallery are situated on the edge of the heritage town of Lismore, the proud winner of numerous Tidiest Town awards. Visitors are invited to wander in the historic gardens, arranged over seven acres within the 17th century outer defensive walls of Lismore Castle. The gardens are said to be the oldest continually cultivated gardens in Ireland and they offer spectacular views of both Lismore castle and the surrounding countryside of the Blackwater valley. Featuring a wide variety of beautifully maintained plants and trees, as well as a permanent sculpture collection, Lismore Castle Gardens is one of the highlights of The Waterford Garden Trail, which includes fifteen gardens around Co. Waterford. Please note the castle itself is a private residence and is therefore not open to visitors. Entry to the garden includes access to the contemporary art gallery, Lismore Castle Arts, which hosts exhibitions of Irish and international artists. There is also a small refreshment counter and a reading room, plus art materials available for children. Visitors might also enjoy other attractions located within walking distance of the gardens. These include Lismore Cathedral, the Heritage Centre and Lady Louisa's walk, as well as a number of bars, cafes, restaurants and shops. Please note due to the historic nature of the gardens and the naturally steep terrain of the ground, there are some unavoidable limitations on access for visitors who use a wheelchair or are less mobile. The gallery, Lismore Castle Arts, is occasionally closed for installation of temporary exhibitions, please contact us for full details.

Very pleasant venue to visit. Was quiet when we were there but can imagine it could get busy perhaps too busy for the available space. There is a cafe which we did not visit and also an art gallery with an unoriginal unexciting poor exhibition. Wouldn't rush back but the town is pleasant enough.

This is a great place to bring children as the walk is the perfect length. Great spot for a picnic, beautiful scenery and informative signs. Very well preserved historical landmark.

A beautiful cathedral which has a number of different areas like the choir area and the main nave. It is very well preserved and there are many plaques to the memory of several people inside. The ceiling of the chapter area is most beautiful. Well worth a visit.

It's very interesting and outstanding building from the outside with a lot of unique feature. The inside is not realy holding up, though it is nice enough and worth a visit.

Stayed in the Coach House on the wonderful Fort William Estate with friends. A spacious three bedroom house , with large living area & a very well equipped kitchen. Great to be able to bring the dogs with us. You would definitely need a car as it’s off the beaten track , but a marvellous place to unwind & relax & appreciate the wonders of nature. Beautiful walks along the banks of the Blackwater river & the dogs were able to roam freely. A haven of peace & tranquility.

The man at the front of the market selling veg was class. He had a beard and was selling spuds. The spuds were balls of flower.

I was disappointed to find the Cotton Library closed this afternoon. But the rest of the cathedral, including a very friendly little cat, were worth the visit.

We had a great experience, my daughters and I really enjoyed it. It was challenging and great fun, everything we had hoped it would be. Anyone visiting Lismore, would highly recommend, well worth a visit. Big thanks to Vanessa and Team.

Great music on a Thursday evening. Every Thursday there is a session in the classroom. I sometimes attend and can say the quality of music is very good.

The locals are friendly too - I've been told by visitors.
