What travellers are saying
- Takarasina2,101 contributionsMy wife and I took a leisurely stroll up and down that exciting place in July, on a warm Saturday evening.
What can I say? Only one word: a must when in Krasnodar. There are many positive reviews there, but I'd stress several essential points that accentuate its stark difference from most Western cities I know: 1) cleanliness; 2) safety, at nighttime too; 3) total lack of junkies and beggars; 4) no pickpockets or conmen longing for prey; 5) people's behaviour, not only locals' but also, let's say, incomers'.
We loved our stay.
Its name should rather be translated as the Fair street or the Beautiful street, but not the Red street, by the way.Written 17 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Takarasina2,101 contributionsA fabulous monument to Russia's empress Catherine the Second aka Catherine the Great who actually was German by nationality but called in this country the only real man on the Russian throne after Peter the Great.
As many monuments to royals it was ruined by the communists in 1920 but, thanks God, their regime collapsed and Russians returned it to its place in 1992.
If you happenned to be in St. Peterburg you might have seen a similar monument to the tzarina there. Such resemblance is not a coincidence - their author was one and the same man. He's a Russian sculpture Mikhail Mikeshin who also created a spellbinding monument to Millennium of Russia in Veliky Novgorod as well as to Bohdan Khmelnitsky, Hetman of Zaporizhian Host, in Kiev, Ukraine. All these, in St Petersburg, Novgorod and Kiev have by strange reason not been demolished by destruction-obsessed communists.
This one in Krasnodar is really mesmerizing, takes your breath away. But the power of this piece of art is not only its size or grandeur. One feels that Russia is still an empire by her spirit whatever the Russians call their country today. Time continuum...
A charming garden squiare around accentuates majesty of the monument - imposing Catherine calmly watches kids playing nearby, pensioners enjoying the sun, teenagers riding their skateboards. People smile, take sekfies, eat ice-ream. An idyll!Written 27 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - romaniliadisThessaloniki, Greece97 contributionsThis is the symbol of homeless dogs. It is very big problem in Russia. And zoodefenders sometimes make meetings and pickets.
