What travellers are saying
- dave911njPipersville, PA1,172 contributionsThe cliffs are a must see if you are visiting Martha's Vineyard. The beauty is magnificent. Before heading to the overlook, stop in the last shack on the left selling goods. They are native Indian of the area. Strike up a conversation with the worker there...you will learn a lot. Also, make sure you take the trail down to Moshup Beach below the cliffs. You won't regret it. Getting a view of the cliffs from below is unbelievable.Written 14 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jane H3 contributionsIt was a real treat for people who enjoy history to learn about the campground and see all the variety and love the owners have put into their cottages. It was great to stroll around & we recommend the campground association museum where we spoke to some cottage owners and got a sense for what the place was like a century ago.Written 2 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - HarlemBaby212New York City, NY11 contributionsFun beyond words. It appears the carousel was the only thing but there is an arcade attached too! Did I mention there is a photo booth too!?Written 4 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- fran603Concord, NH25 contributionsGreat beach with good waves to play in. I read one review that said there were bathrooms but where we went there were only porta potties. Certainly better than nothing though!Written 10 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- RandyRossRidgetown, Canada11,776 contributionsThe Edgartown Harbor Lighthouse at the end of north Water Street defines the entrance to the Harbor. The harbor is large and entered through a modest sized channel on the North side of Edgartown.
This lighthouse is certainly worth a photo stop.Written 17 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Absolutely beautiful- I waited till it started raining to take the picture and it didn’t do it justice. Just a short walk to the boat slips one way- the town another.Written 8 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - RandyRossRidgetown, Canada11,776 contributionsTo us the beautiful clay cliffs were the most important reason to visit Gay Head. That said, the lighthouse was also of great interest.
The lighthouse was declared obsolete and along with two other Martha's Vineyard lighthouses (East Chop Light and Edgartown Harbor Light) was listed for destruction.
Not only was the lighthouse saved but the Gay Head Lighthouse Committee worked in conjunction with the town of Aquinnah and the Martha's Vineyard Island community to raise approximately $3.5 million to relocate the lighthouse about 129 feet (39 m) from its former location in order to protect it from erosion in June of 2015.Written 17 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - RandyRossRidgetown, Canada11,776 contributionsWe found the Gay Head Cliffs to be one of the more beautiful natural areas of Martha's Vineyard. Not only are the cliffs themselves beautiful but the lighthouse is also quite interesting.
The Gay Head Cliffs are a national landmark. The beautiful, colorful layers of clay make up the cliffs. It has been said that fossil bones of whales, camels and wild horses have been found in the cliff layers.
Most of the stores were closed at the end of October but a couple were open, as were the restrooms. And the cliffs never lose their beauty, I'm sure.Written 17 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Drive out the dirt road to the bridge where you can park and walk out to the dunes and beach. Take a moment to be amazed at the beauty that is there. It’s remote and natural and absolutely beautiful.Written 10 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
