What travellers are saying
- LexiN7Pottstown, PA39 contributionsExcellent tour takes around 45-60 minutes, and free!, though donations are welcome. House has been beautifully restored and our guide was full of knowledge and info on the houses history, the Potts family and the iron works. Highly recommend.Written 26 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Tina BPottstown, PA5 contributionsSit outside and admire a field full of very lucky horses or be there around the time they bring the herd inside and get to feed them treats. Good for kids. Equally wonderful for adults who love animals. Open all year around (closes to visitors at 4 pm)Written 9 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - WawafontColumbus, NJ118 contributionsEverything here was amazing. I’m so glad we stopped to try a few beverages. The cruel summer cocktail was excellent. The whiskey sampler was also amazing. We will definitely be back.
I wish we would have went here earlier instead of wasting our time at sly fox brewery.Written 5 September 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We’re members of the National Carousel Association. The animals were recently carved by Ed Roth who can copy any style of animal with excellence. It’s very well set up for parties and other riders at the same time. While we were here there was a birthday party happening, but the two groups didn’t disturb each other.Written 31 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Bruce F3 contributionsThis park truly has something for everyone in the family (or any group of people). First, the many lots allowone to park close to different activity areas. Second, whether one wants to hike, swim, or enjoy playgrounds, Chester County's park department provides trails, access to French Creek, and ample play equipment. The Chester County park folks built a tower at the end of The Iron Heritage Trail to get a great view of well, the rest of the park. Third, French Creek allows fishing, wading, and many interesting rocks for your enjoyment.
The only drawback is that some of the trails are grass rather than gravel or dirt. However, this fact is made up for by a boardwalk that allows handicapped access to the creek.
Finally, to top off all of these amenities, the park has very clean restrooms. These are located in the park office, where on-site law enforcement is housed (probably the best perq of all).Written 18 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. So we didn't spend nearly as long there as we had planned. It looked enticing with lots of large trees and a good size pond.
Be warned, however, to bring your own supplies including water. There is no gift shop or cafe -- no place to buy a beverage. The 'facilites' consist of some very clean port-a-potties and a large covered picnic area.
It is free admission, free parking, and a nice brochure. I hope to return, with my dogs, on a cooler day.Written 13 June 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The park now is so much more enhanced and beautiful. Lot’s of great memories here; more being made everyday by families and friends. Ball games, walking, picnics are just a few of the offerings.Written 6 August 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JS BReading, PA37 contributionsAlong a walk-able stretch of old roadway, a visitor can view the progression of history dating from the middle of the 1700s to the middle of the 1900s. Where else can you stand at the site of a navigation canal and gaze up at the massive towers of a nuclear generating station while hearing the whistle of a train? Three important eras intertwine at Fricks Lock. Guided tours lead alongside a half-dozen or so structures. Several of the volunteers grew up in Fricks Lock until moving away in 1959.Their stories give a meaningful and personal feel to the tour. Fricks Lock feels like a ghost town and a charming village at the same time.
The village is co-owned by East Coventry Township and Exelon Generation and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Important note: Fricks Lock is open every second and fourth Saturday, from June to October. Check the website for updates on days and hours of operation as well as additions to the tour should the buildings be renovated further.Written 20 September 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Allison BLancaster, PA7 contributionsI did the singing bowls session in the salt cave and this insomniac fell asleep despite being right up next to the bowls (which can be louder)! I was sooo relaxed afterwards and then went into a 45-min reflexology session that I loved more than any full-body massage I've ever had. I reached a level of relaxation I don't think I ever have in my 49 years on this planet. The staff is incredibly nice. I'm hooked and am going back next month, and bringing a friend.Written 15 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
