I would like to share that we feel that it is our commitment to each and every guest of the Waldorf Astoria to treat them as if they were family, and that our standard of service and guest room accommodations are not dependent on how you book your stay here. True Waldorf Service, a tenet of our brand and legacy, means that we treat every guest with courtesy and a friendly demeanor, and this extends to how we assign our rooms as well.

In short, the answer is no. The only consideration that will guide our team as they assign a room for your reservation is the room type you booked- not your method of payment.

Thank you for reaching out to the Waldorf with your inquiry regarding room accommodations! I am confident that you will be able to find a room type that fits your needs for your special visit with your family. I would like to share that we do have several different room types, each of which come standard with 9-inch pillow-top bedding, big high ceilings that create an air of spaciousness, and no less than a 37-inch flat-screen television. This being said, I do, however, recommend that you research our room types to be sure that the accommodation you book will fit your needs regarding size and other amenities. I would also like to add that if you book a stay in any hotel on a third-party site (like Expedia, etc.), many of these reservations engines do not guarantee the room type you booked will be the room type you are checked in to. While we do our best to ensure that each and every guest is checked in to a room that best fits their needs and expectations, this can sometimes cause issues between the booking engine and our reservation system and, consequently, cause frustrations on the part of the guest. To this end, I would recommend that you book through our official Hilton booking website, since the rate you see there will include all mandatory taxes and you will be guaranteed the room type you book (if not better!). This is just not always the case with third-party booking websites.

Thank you for reaching out with your inquiry. I am happy to shed some light on the accommodations and ambiance at our iconic hotel and feel very confident that you will be able to find the right accommodation to fit your needs at the Waldorf Astoria with this advice.

First, I would like to share with you the features that come standard in every room. Each room has a 9-inch pillow-top mattress with signature, triple-sheeted Waldorf bedding. Every room has at minimum a 37-inch flat screen television, and big, high ceilings in each room make our accommodations feel spacious and comfortable.

Our breakfast service at Oscar's Brasserie and Sunday Brunch at Peacock Alley are both exceptional dining experiences for our guests. Please note that guests of the Towers of the Waldorf Astoria receive complimentary access to our Astoria lounge on the 26th floor in the mornings and afternoons, where there are pastries, coffee and fresh juice, and other Waldorf treats. Otherwise, we suggest you visit Oscar's Brasserie on the ground floor of the hotel to fuel up before you enjoy the rest of your day in New York City- this restaurant is where Eggs Benedict was invented, after all!

For my last point, I would like to share that we have several different room types: each of which vary in size of the room, potential living room space, and bathroom. I would suggest that you research our website to ensure that the room you book fits your needs for your special visit with your mother, and that you keep in mind that many third-party booking engines do not guarantee that you will be checked into the room type booked upon arrival. We do our best to ensure that every guest is checked into the room that exceeds your expectations for a luxury stay, and the best way to do so is to book online through our Hilton reservations website.

Hi Dawn,

The history of the place is fabulous, with the photos of all the people who have stayed there in the past dotted around the place really interesting. The lobby is magnificent and we snuck into a few of the ballrooms to have a look around. The main ballroom is incredible, it's huge and you can almost feel the presence of all the party and ball goers from the 30s, 40s and 50s. So from a history point of view I don't think there's any better hotel in New York and this was the main reason we stayed there.

The room we had was quite large and space was never an issue, but the fixtures and fittings, while not being tatty or dirty, are a bit dated but nothing that interfered with our enjoyment of our stay.

Breakfast wasn't included in our package and due to the astronomical price for everything including a half a grapefruit for $14 I think, we never ate there and had breakfast elsewhere.

While some of our online reviews generally praise our public spaces, I do wish there was more recognition of what we’ve done to update our guest rooms.

Our most experienced carpet is four years old. Every room has a 9 inch pillow-top mattress with signature Waldorf bedding. Each room has (at minimum) a 37” flat screen television. Big high ceilings, cleanliness scores near the top of the metrics for Hilton Worldwide….many positives by any standard!

 

We are not a brass-and-glass hip hotel. Very traditional. Valances and sheers as window treatments. A historic feel.

Good Morning, Nana! Thank you for your question. We offer only the finest menu offerings at each of our three restaurants at the hotel and frequently hear that our guests love dining at Peacock Alley, Bull & Bear, and Oscar's Brasserie. Sunday Brunch at Peacock Alley is not to be missed!

As for the licensing laws, yes, we are certainly beholden to state laws regarding the legal drinking age. The official answer is that anyone under the age of 21 may not be served or drink alcohol in the hotel, and while they are not able to sit at the bar, we welcome diners of all ages in the main dining rooms in each of our restaurants.
