Well January is a winter month , which is usually cold, with maybe snow( not always) and Cumbria /The lake District has most of England's highest mountains. The tourist towns, tend to have a certain amount of activity, even in winter . If you are going for the scenery, it should be worth your while. Lots of experienced walkers like that time..not so good if you don't have the correct winter gear. The Whitbarrow village is a good base for exploring the higher lake district, including Keswick, but is a good drive from Windermere/Ambleside/Coniston. It should be a comfortable stay though.

The weather plays a big part anywhere in England in January!! However Whitbarrow Village is a fantastic place to stay with Restauraunt, Swimming and sauna on site. The units are very well furnished to a very high standard and are very warm. The Lake district can be very beautiful in Janaury but snow etc can make it difficult to get about in Janauary. If Winter walking or a cosy relaxing time is what you want - Whitbarrow would be ideal.

This is the third attempt to answer!!!

I agree, weather will be a deciding factor. Snow and ice would be hazardous, but if fine and you enjoy winter walking it could be great. not many attractions would be open then but keswick and penrith are attractive towns. Whitbarrow is very comfortable and has activities on site, but it would be a pity to have to be confined to site. There is no wifi in units, only in the bar area.

Well it will be very cold in the Lake District. Some of the roads are very narrow and steep so travel could be tricky. Whitbarrow is heated well so it will be comfortable there but some of the sight seeing will be disappointing. March would be much better.
