Grizzly Lodge Questions & Answers

Milner, Georgia

Looking for a place to unwind in late Spring 2015...My first cousin's are Mike Orms and Nancy Kirby Orms who have stayed there and they highly recommend it. I was led to believe that the area might be able to satisfy my need for trout fishing. could you send me anything on the Lodge.

Sincerely,

Barbara Orms Bright

Most of the fishing streams I have seen are on the Madison River area near West Yellowstone. There are a lot of 'no fishing' signs here and there in the park that come up and down. I do not know how the park service regulates things for spawning, etc. Soda Butte Creek runs by the lodge. It is outside the park boundaries but within the Gallatin National Forest. There are fly fishing equipment stores in Cooke City.

They might know where to try your luck.

There are plenty of nearby streams and rivers. As far as the Grizzly Lodge is concerned, it is just a basic motel. It is clean and the staff is friendly. You will have to go elsewhere for meals, etc. There is a cafe right next door, but you should go a mile or two east and get breakfast at the Bearclaw Bakery in Cooke City. It's fantastic and it opens at 5:30 am for baked goods and coffee and at 6:00 am for a cooked breakfast. Don't miss the opportunity to eat there. There are additional eateries in Cooke City as well. The Grizzly Lodge is the closest motel to the NE entrance of Yellowstone.

We do not fish ourselves, but we saw a number of "fishing people" in and around Grizzly Lodge. There is a stream that runs right through (or along) the property. I would hazard a guess and say that this is prime trout fishing territory.
