North Beach Plantation Questions & Answers

Oakdale, Pennsylvania

Hi to Visitors and staff of North Plantation.

My hubby unfortunately has Pancreatic Cancer and has requested a trip to Myrtle Beach for our 41st anniversary. For many years in a row we camped in North Myrtle right near Barefoot Landing and he would like to return.

We are bringing our 3 sons and their families. There will be 8-10 adults and 5 children 3 and under. We have chosen condo 1901. If anyone has stayed there, we would love to hear from you. we are also having a difficult time getting a cabana, one of our main criteria for booking here. My husband cannot be in the blaring sun due to chemo. Is it easy to get a Cabana once there?

We will be there the middle of July....are the pools and beaches always crowded

Thanks for your input.

North Beach is a wonderful place to stay. The lazy river and heated pool are in doors, but open for entry so you get the full pool view. We rented a beach wheel chair for my grandfather twice. You can get one from the city for free they just like donations. That was really helpful being able to take him on walks on the beach or to sit under an umbrella. The staff is wonderful so I would call the concerierge and let them know about your situation and I am sure they will help in anyway they can.

Sorry to hear about your hubby's condition. My wife and I had stayed in 1001 for about three weeks in May-June. Barefoot landing is a hoot and has changed since the last time we were there. You'll enjoy 'Dicks'; ask to be seated in "Magic Matt's" section. He is a hoot.

There is an indoor pool at the "G" level and an inside "Lazy River" too. You can get a Cabana (I think it was $40/day). Get it early in the morning and or you can call the concierge and they will reserve it for you. You can also reserve two chairs and an umbrella ($25/day OR a discounted price for the week). There is a wonderful ramp going from the pool area to the beach and a "wash the sand off" area when you come back into the pool area.

Since you have one of the larger condos (5 bedrooms) a huge living area and a dining area that seats 8: about 3,000 square feet, you will love the balcony overlooking the ocean front, and the smaller balcony overlooking the pool area.

We had a wedding reception in ours and easily hosted 25 guests. You will love the master suite as it leads directly to the main balcony. We put the grands in a bedroom by themselves (without a balcony for safety reasons) and they had a blast.

There are tons of places to take the gang to eat. Our favorites were Duffy's (had the low country boil - I didn't know it was supposed to be shared: awesome); 'The Shack' was very good and very inexpensive. Our favorite was Captain John's in Calabash, NC. It's about 10+ miles north from your condo. We hosted a rehearsal dinner there for about 25 friends and it was truly awesome. Great menu beginning with those awesome hushpuppies. We ate there 3 times. It was an excellent experience. The manager is "Mike". Give him a call and he will set your whole group up, either in the 'back room' overlooking the river or somewhere near you want to be. Shelley is the head server is provides great service.

The beach is, of course, awesome. That's the one thing we don't have here in Arizona.

Hope this tome soothes your doubts and offers a blessed trip for you, your hubby and your family. God Bless y'all.

My mom also had pancreatic cancer, and I realize why comfort is your utmost priority. Call the concierge and ask to speak to the manager, and explain your situation. It isn't like a typical hotel. Usually it is staffed by two people checking people in. If you use a GPS, also ask their specific address, as the online address can be a little roundabout. Cabanas in late May did not seem to be utilized that much, and the beach isn't crowded per say, but well- visited. Umbrellas are available for $25 until 5pm by the city of Myrtle Beach, but packing your own is definitely an option. There is a very good ramp leading to the beach in case you need to use a beach wheel chair..Stay in an oceanfront condo versus ocean view so you do not have a side view., although it is still very pretty..higher floors are the way to go because you can open your sliding doors and not get bugs. The pillows aren't super comfortable, so you may want to bring one for your husband if he is suffering from a lot of dis

Comfort.Again it isn't like a typical hotel per say, but you should find yourselves comfortable, and in case he is tired, opening the sliding doors to the balcony will allow him to both hear and see the ocean. Sunrise is spectacular. I would recommend groceries before you go as the store options aren't great and a little expensive, especially if you are doing more organic food options.Really hope this helps. Take care.

I could not get a cabana however we were able to stay in the shade at the pool closest to the gate against the building. I'm quite fair and don't like to sun much...certainly not the same level of concern I understand. They were exceedingly gracious in all of my requests in other areas...perhaps when you get there, they can assist in some way. The resort is lovely and very comfortable. Enjoy your trip and prayers to you and your family as your husband's treatment continues.
