The speed limit is extremely slow on Antigua, so car hire may not be practical for this island. Buses are the cheapest mode of travel for Antigua, whilst taxis are also pretty expensive.

You can hire a car cheaply on Barbuda with hardly any paperwork, and it may be the best option to get around this island as nothing is within walking distance. Antigua Main Attractions

There are few historical or cultural attractions on these two islands, but you can find plenty of enjoyable activities. The city of St. John in Antigua hosts cricket games and the annual Carnival celebration, which is like Mardi Gras in New Orleans. The beautiful beaches offer many water sports, sailing, scuba diving and snorkeling. The main attraction for Barbuda is its huge rare frigate bird colony. There are very few places in the world that have such colonies, so this island attracts a lot of bird watchers and nature lovers. You can also enjoy beach activities on Barbuda, take a guided tour of the sights, or visit the Art Café.

Antigua Shopping, Dining and Nightlife

You will want to go to Antigua for shopping, and keep your ship ID or airline ticket with you so you can take advantage of the tax-free offerings on the island. The best items to buy there are fine linens, gold jewellery, tobacco products, and liquor. The Galley Boutique located in English Harbor and 1000 Flowers in St. John sells lovely clothing as well. Local dishes you will want to try are fungi, a dish similar to Italian cornmeal polenta, seafood and seasoned rice. You can get delicious lobster on Barbuda, and the confections from the bakeries are definitely worth a try. Antiguan rum and beer are very popular, and you can find bars and pubs on either island, especially in the resort areas.
