Los Cabos International Airport is about 6 miles from San Jose del Cabo, and about 30-40 minutes from Cabo San Lucas itself. Cabo San Lucas, generally known just as Cabo, is a Mexican city situated in the southern tip of Baja California. The airport handles nearly 3 million passengers per year and is the seventh busiest in Mexico. Although you can get cheap flights to Cabo, taxis are notoriously expensive from the airport, but there are other options. There is the Los Cabos Airport Shuttle and also a bus service, the Los Cabos Express.
A popular option is to rent a car and there are several major car rental companies represented at the airport. Taxis are another option, but even when hired from legitimate businesses, recommended for safety reasons, they are not cheap. There is a reasonable local bus service, called Subercabos, which is cheap, and the buses are usually comfortable. Buses run every twenty minutes and will stop anywhere along their routes as requested by the passengers. So after you have arrived in the region on your Cabo flights there are several good options to get around the area.
The main attraction of the Cabo region is its beaches. There are 20 miles of beautiful beaches and coves stretching from Cabo San Lucas to San Jose del Cabo. Water activities such as scuba diving are popular and well catered for. During winter, pods of whales can often be seen in the ocean. A popular place to visit is the Cabo Dolphins centre, where you can even swim with the dolphins. The most famous local landmark is the El Arco, which is best viewed in a trip in a water taxi. It really makes your flights to Cabo worthwhile seeing this stunning natural rock formation.
The area has a reputation as having a raucous party atmosphere, with many bars and nightclubs located in the region. A member of Van Halen, Sammy Haggar, owns the Cabo Wabo Cantina nightclub and restaurant. There is no shortage of excellent restaurants as well, such as the Happy Ending Cantina. This is a great place just to get a drink, but also has good and reasonably priced food available such as the tacos. A great Mexican restaurant with a stunning view of the beach is the Hacienda Cocina y Cantina. Cerviche verde and carnitas with churros is a great dish to try. If you love Mexican food then you cannot go wrong buying an airfare to Cabo.
